    New CH Champion Press $255

Well I talked with CH and for a group buy I can get a pretty good deal. So lets see what sort of intrest we have here and I'll be the front man for the purchase.

I can offer the press for $255 with a flat $20 shipping.

Would like to get atleast 5 orders. Ch time line is not for sure. I was told they put the press together on demand but all parts are in stock I'm told with enough for severial presses. I do not expect any large delays but will certainly check back when we have an idea of total intrest.

Press will be shipped dirrect from CH. I will handle the finances so funds would need to be sent to myself.

I'll post this in the group buy section as well but would like to keep it posted here too.

From the looks of this press and reviews I have seen here it looks like quite the press. I will probably pick one up myself at this price.

    I'll keep you all posted.

Did you check if a threaded ram is available ?
or only the shellholder style ram ?

I did not check yet. I will. Been thinking how we could make this a perfect press for your set up there Jon. Got a few ideas. I'll get back to you.

    Brian:

For swaging, you should see if they will run the rams solid, and shorter - just enough that they can drill & tap them to fit the CH4D part # 407190 "H" ram part for a shellholder.

That way your 1/2-20 punches will fit the ram, and if the shellholder slot does get crushed it will be replaceable too.

Can't decap, but that is why Lee makes aluminum presses so cheap...

My thought too. All but the shorter part????????? As in turn down the length of the existing ram getting rid of the entire shell holder to allow...... Ahhh....... yes...... drill and tap what is left. Yep! That is what I thought I would do on a personal press and possibly one for Jon. Yes the shell holder is a threaded "replacable" part then.

From their web sight it looked like the ram may have been just a bit long and sticks up just a bit. Will have to look into that. Another thing...... did they cut out a slot in the ram for deprimming. I certainly do not wish to deprime with this press but if it is solid without the cut out it will be all the better.

I know the solid ram with 1/2-20 will be my goal for this press. I'll have to see what they can do.

    BT,
also remember the auto ejector setup.
I suppose my auto ejector is a different size, due to the custom size of my custom Lee upper ram piece.
the more I think about it, I'll probably just stick with the Lee classic cast press.

But I thought I'd mention that for your other customers.
Cause once someone gets setup with that nice CH press, they will
    surely want the auto ejector.

Put me down for one, with a threaded ram if available, and a standard ram. I was gonna order one after christmas so the timing is perfect.

    CH4D & BTS Ejector

I have the Champion press as it comes from CH4D, and BTS's ejector, and I don't think you can find a better combination on the market for that little money. It is more robust than it needs to be, with 5/8" pins in the toggle linkage, and a handle that is 3/4" in diameter and 14 1/2" long, so that you have all the strength and leverage for any swaging job you might want to do. It utilizes the standard shell holder slot in the ram, and as long as you don't put a 2' extension on the handle, you are not going to break or bend this setup.
If you start trying to adapt it perfectly to your particular situation, Dave is not going to be able to provide the press at the quoted price. He is using off-the-shelf pieces that he has on hand to discount it to that amount, and for that money, you are getting all you need to swage anything that you will be shooting. Don't be trying to get a Rolls Royce for a Cadillac price, as this press is good-to-go as it is.

Nobody is asking for a Rolls. Simply asking the dealer to omit the radio & floor mats on a stock caddy...

Seriously, the secondary milling operation for the priming arm & shellholder slot could be left out easily enough. Shortening the overall length of the ram so that adding back the length of a standard CH part to hold a shellholder makes the overall the same as it was is not a big deal. Tapping a hole in the end? It is in the lathe already.

What we are talking about is a dedicated swage ram. The crushed shellholder slot is something that happens, others here have done it.

Even if they are not willing to include this with the group buy presses, it would be worth following up on as a replacement part.

Checked with Ch today. They have 5 of the standard champion presses all put together for us and ready to ship. Inquired about the solid threaded ram and obviously we figured out it is possible to obmit the shell holder and primmer ejection hole but I was told threading it was not an option. Ofcourse drill and tap would be easy for anyone with a lathe. The problem is not can it be done at the CH shop but when it can be worked into their work schedule.

I figure I would be able to offer a ram with necessary threads for our base punches or possibly have another member here put it together for us. I may even be able to do exactly as B sugested and turn down the shell holder and tap what is left. Think it would be perfect actually.

So again we are a go for atleast 5 presses in standard configuration. I plan on getting one too and will probably do exactly as B suggested. Probably even offer this service to anyone else interested too. With the CH threaded shell holder in place it will be back to original length (like B stated) and still be able to load and deprime yet have the added strength and perfect alignment of a threaded base punch. Should make a perfect swaging press.

CH4D Champion Press & BTS Bullet Ejector Mechanism

For those of you not familiar with the Champion press and BT's ejector mechanism, this is a picture of the setup. For the money involved, it is the best swaging rig you can buy. It simplifies the process to 2 strokes. Pull down, push up=1 boolit. Dave is cutting a tremendous deal for those of you who want the best for the least money. It utilizes the standard shellholder in the top of the ram, and, judging by how much pressure I have subjected mine to in the swaging process, you can't collapse it without using a 2' extension bar(which voids the warranty). The link pins are 5/8" in diameter and the handle is 3/4" x 14 1/2" long, which gives you all the leverage you could possibly need to swage lead. The press weighs 26+ lbs, so don't drop it on your foot. BTSniper's ejector mechanism is exactly right for this setup. The ram is 1.186" in diameter and he bored the hole to 1.190", so that it is a press fit, which is then held in place by tightening the bolts on either side of the ram. Since the press uses standard 7/8" X 14 tpi threads, any normal die will fit it, and you can use it for reloading. But why? Lesser presses, that can't be used for swaging, will do that just fine.
Do yourself a big favor and jump on this deal from CH4D. The price is right and they are ready to ship, no waiting 6 months or a year.

I definitely want one, but right before Christmas? You're killing me. Let me check and see if the wife will approve this as my X-mas present! I need a dedicated swaging press, for sure.

Have some questions, Iam interested in this press and was wondering if it is not to late to get in on this deal. If yes I will probably have made up my mind when friday gets here. Just to be clear these are shipped direct from CH4D but we would send payment to you, correct? And these are still able to do normal reloading chores along
with swaging in regards to the ram? Thanks

Yes it is the standard CH Champion press capible of reloading with standard shell holder slot and more then strong enough for swaging.
