    how do you figure this?

Shiloh .45-70, 72 grs Swiss 1 1/2, RCBS 82084 535 grs., Rem 9 1/2 primer, range 325 yds. I shot five rounds, drove down to the target and looked at the 5 holes scattered about in a 13 inch group, all below the ten ring, drove back to the bench and fired the second five rounds, went for a look and found all five in the ten ring! I must have sobered up on the way back to the bench. You can see the first five were one nine, two eights, one seven and one six down in the left hand corner. Target is the SR 42.

I assume you did not adjust your sights. All I would say is that two things could cause this one is a slightly better cheak weld and sight alignment or a change in light. I place a strip of tape on my stock comb so that I can place my cheak in the same place for each shot. This alone makes a good difference in group size for me.

Nick: Nope, same sight setting. Thanks for the pointer; I'm going to try that.

Lightbulb Inquiring minds need to know ---

    Hey Hy!
    Still good shooting IMO!

    May I ask ---
    What sights are/were you using?
    What barrel length/style of barrel?
Did you clean your bore between shots?
Do you have any photos of your rifle?

    alittlehumor
What brand beer were you drinking?
Were you wearing your favorite boots; or bare-footed?
Was your horse standing still, or in a gallop?

Should we take up a collection and buy him a new target? There must be 50 shots in that one!

I've had good shooters tell me about guns that like fouling and get better after a certain number of shots. Haven't experienced it myself, but maybe yours likes fouled and cooled down..

    Brian,

My .50 is that way. The first shot is about a minute low and right.
It settles in at about 7-8 shots when I use the blow tube. I dont clean at a shoot like the Quigley, but I will run a barely damp patch through after the second relay about 16 shots to see if the patch is starting to drag. Most generally I'm good to finish the days shooting.
I cant do this with the other calibers. I have to clean after each relay.

Here's a picture of my rifle; LRE Shiloh, 32 inch barrel, MVA Buffalo sights. Oh yeah, that's me in the picture, too. I was younger back then-two weeks ago.

Sharpsshooter: Hope you can get me that new target-the Mrs. refuses to spot for me until I get rid of this one.

Charlie I'm inclined to think Dan hit it.
Also might consider getting ahold of Bryan Youngberg and acquiring a set of his bench xsticks.
I got some targets I can mail you, but without that young lady that lives with ya spotting you'll have to walk down and check the target and that'll be a good cardiovascular workout.

WEll maybe not... Call him and tell him what day you'll be thru there and that's just the day after he's leaving for his diamond mine in the outer banks of the Brazilian desert..... And he never knows how long he'll be there so can't say when he'll get back....

    Kurt & Don;
You guys are welcome anytime. Thanks for the offer Don, I've got plenty of targets but just too cheap to get rid of one until it is shot to pieces.

Dan: I rest the barrel on the support and my left hand controls a sand bag under the stock. I endeavor to do everything the same each shot, but who knows.
