Question Odd moulds, What shoots this?

A friend of mines father passed away recently, a caster and avid long range BP shooter from Lincoln, NE. He knew I cast so he brought me the moulds. I didn't recognize them at first but after some closer inspection they are five Lee .45 caliber 2 cav moulds reamed out to .484 and marked accordingly. I am very unfamiliar with BP guns especially something as odd as this. What caliber is this? Any help appreciated. Tks Clinton.

Sounds like they were set up for a 50.

That would make sense, since his other moulds are .50 and that was what he was known to shoot. What accounts for the huge gap between .484 and .500? Paper patching? Sabots?

I would hazard a guess for Paper patching you would be able to patch up about .007 to that Diam and give you a .491 slug. Hard too tell.

He might have used regular note book paper that would give him .012-13" that would be just about right.
