OK Guys,

I'm moving foward. Just placed first order for 7 of the blank dies to use for this universial notching die. Should be here in about a week, then a week or so for me to make the parts. I'll start an official waiting list soon as well as figure intial cost. Won't be long now. I would have ordered a few more then 7 but that's what was in stock. I can order more later depending on demand.

Recieved the first 7 dies today. I still need to make the necessary parts to complete this set up. I want to fill you all in on exactly what it is you will be recieving. I'll take some pics too I'm sure. What I start with is a slightly modified Redding 40S&W/10mm expander die. Then I make the custom notch punch insert and the rounded concaved insert to fit. It is still able to work as intended for belling the mouth of 40 S&W cases as well. These punches are held in the die by the same 1/2-20TPI thread as the expander but will have to be installed and removed from the base of the die. Not to worry the simplicity of this die will not be a problem as well as the quality. There was other possible dies that could have worked and I looked them over, but I have allways been pleased with Redding quality. Should you wish to use this die for a sizing die as well, the bore diameter will be just about .500 so a flanged 1/2" drill bushing would fit in the base.

As far as holding the bullet on the ram goes, if your bullet has a rim like our bullets from brass then usually a shell holder of appropriate size works great otherwise any flat base punch that you are using for swaging will work just fine. Because of the internial design the bullet will self allign in the die. I do not plan to offer a shell holder or this base punch as it is somthing you all should allready have but then again if you wish for additional cost I can do so just let me know.

I do not plan to offer the internial components seperate from the 40 expander die should you allready have one. As I will be boring the die out to .500 these internial punches would not fit without modification to stock dies anyways.

I still hesiate to quote a cost just yet as I still need to make the punch. That notch punch does take a bit of work to cut by hand. Maybe I can figure it out on the mill, we shall see. I stocked up on material to offer a varrity of HP punches to allow the many different possible bullet combinations as well.

I will have caught up on my current die orders by end of this weekend and will possibly have time to work on these universial notch dies as well. When I get a better idea of amount of labor involved I will quote you all a price and then ship in order of funds recieved.

Bought out midway again. I have enough dies now for 13 orders and as before I can certainly order more.

I spent some time in the machine shop this weekend. Got the initial 7 dies bored out and began work on the internial punches. I will be ordering the necessary tool to cut the perfect teeth for the notch insert using a mill. It should produce results that will be even better then anythign I have ever posted pics of. This has always been my plan in that I would not sell you guys anything unless it is better then what I have in use for myself. This set up will certainly be all that.

Did I mention this die works great for making Glazers too!

I still see no problem having all 13 of these dies ready by Christmas and possibly sooner.

It will certainly be worth the wait.
