I've been using more Lilgun and 300mp with my 375 grainers. Have not done much medium speed powders.

Here is a group with 28.0 grains of SR 4759, cci 350 priners. Average velocity is 1581 fps with a SD 4.8! Best load combo I have found for this Mountain Molds 459-375 boolit so far. 80 yards, and relatively shootable at that speed.

    gas checking bullets

Thanks again for the info guys.
O.K., new here, but not new to casting. In order to properly gas check a bullet, the bullet itself has to be designed to take a gas check. As someone mentioned, the base of the bullet is of slightly smaller diameter then the main bullet body, enough so that a gas check will fit snugly. But, to crimp the gas check on the bullet, the bullet must be run through a lubri-sizer with the gas check pressed onto the bullet base. The lubrisizer is a device meant to size the diameter of the bullet to the proper diameter as well as making it more concentric, and also to crimp a gascheck onto it. Hope this helps.
I am new to the .458 SOCOM, picked up an AR in that caliber, and was thinking about using a gas checked bullet, considering that a plain based bullet might eventually deposit enough lead in the gas port to affect the functioning of the gun. Also learned that poly coated bullets like the Hi-Tec will eliminate that problem.
Glad to finally be on the forum.
