    44 cal one step intrest

I am getting ready to place another order to put together some 44 cal one step dies to make .429 bullets from 40 S&W brass. Who's on board? I know I have a few of you that have expressed intrest via PM.

Cost is the same as it has been for some time now at $150 + $10 S&H. It will include the improved CH 101 series swage die with HP nose punch set up as standard, 5 sample jackets and cores, 5 formed bullets made from your die and enough swage lube to make at least 500 more bullets all protected in black plastic die box. I set these up on a RCBS rock chucker press so all you have to do is screw it in place and you are good to go. This really is a great way to get started into swaging with the least amount of frustration or investment.

I will accept money order or personal check on special request. Dies will be sent in order of funds recieved. Get in on this early to be first in line when it comes time to ship. It will take about two weeks for dies to arrive to my door and a couple weekends after that for me to put them together with my heavy duty components. I imagine delivery will be about 4-6 weeks maybe less. Like I have told everyone else here I will take what time is necessary to ensure these dies work exactly as I have said they will.

Feel free to reply here or PM. Also speak up should you have a different caliber die set in mind from the CH 101 series offerings, 9mm to 45 cal with all the pistol calibers inbetween basicly.

    Thanks

    I'm in!

I sent you a lot of questions in the PM. Not sure any or all of it will be easier or harder, so just fire me an answer when you get a chance. (I'm mainly just wanting a good source of cheap jacketed bullets for plinking with my Ruger Carbine. Won't be shooting a ton of them, and won't be taking them deer hunting. I just need them to go bang without clogging up the gas system. If it's easier for you to set up your production run to make all HP nose-forming pins, that's fine with me too!

Also, will my Lee classic cast press be far off the Rock-Chucker to adjust?

Will you PM me your payment location?

I'm a full weekend behind on my PMs, got a few of them to catch up on. I have severial different presses. A lee classic being one of them. No problem seting it up on the lee for you.

I'll fill you in on the notch punch. Got a couple different options avialble. Expect a pm.

These bullets may just supprise you guys in all aspects from ease of production, fun/cheap, accurate, fun/cheap, performance and oh yeh did I mention they are a lot of fun to make as well as cheap. I have shot a lot of 44 cal bullets as well as many customers I have traded with for the last two years. I spent a lot of that time perfecting this set up with the feed back I got. Now I think it is really going to be hard to improve this set up as I really think it is that good as well as simple. The design of these bullets really fairs well in the aspect of a great hunting bullet. I would not hesitate to take down a deer or two with these bullets. Tapered jacket walls for controled expansion, solid brass base, high weight retention, and you control the hardness of the core, what more could you ask for in a good bullet. Very rewarding reloading your own ammo, now imagine reloading your ammo with your own custom bullets.

You guys are on the list, I'll get you a PM with my address as well as answers to all your questions as soon as I can, probably tomorrow. I'm going to call CH-4d first thing this week and make sure they have plenty of 44 swage dies in stock. We certainly have had an effect on their business latly.

Anyone else please feel free to chime in. I expect I'll order a few extra as I can't even keep them on the shelf. This offer certainly extends to anyone and everyone including guests that enjoy viewing this sight. Feel free to join in or if you wish I can accept orders via my email.

    Good shooting and Swage On!

I am interested in the 44 set up. I am also interested in 9mm and 38Spec/357Mag as well as 45 ACP.

Can these die bodies be used for all calibers, by switching out the internals to the next caliber of choice?

I am not able to outright purchase them in the near future, but am trying to save up for a distant purchase.

My press is a Herters Super Bullet Maker in a C style. I also have a Lyman Spartan
C press. Would these be suitable to handle this type of swaging? Or do I need to look for a Lee Classic/RCBS Rockchucker?

    Thank you

    Jeff Davis

The body depth is all you would have to adjust, they are different but not by much.

List is progressing. Placed order today for first round of dies. Will make another order of additional 44 cal dies soon as first few checks arrive. I expect this first batch of dies should be here by end of next week.

Plenty more are avialble. Will keep you all posted and up to date.

    BT

p.s. .458 is possible. Posted a thread here a while back on the big .458 bullets I made from a bored out .451 die. Really made some good looking bullets. PM me for serious inquires regarding a possible custom .458 die. Thanks

    Can't wait to try this!!

Other than getting some 40 brass and annealing them, is there anything else I need or could do for prep work??

(I've already got a few hundred soft-cast 40x175s cast up, so I think I'm good there..)

For those of you riding the fence on this, TAKE THE PLUNGE. BTs dies make a great looking bullet that equals those you used to afford to shoot.
After the brass prep, you stack it and pull the handle.

    Period...

$14 stainless steel colender from wally world works best to anneal large lots of brass. I use it in a BBQ grill on the flames. Other use same collender in a firplace. What ever gets the base of the brass to glow just a bit will work.

Cast some 40 cal cores in 175-190 grain weights. Wheel weight alloy or softer will work great. Of course the softer the lead the easier to form bullet and less ware on equipment. Me I use ww alloy most of the time. I like the lee 6 cavity 175 grain 40 cal mold to make core fast. Tumble lube or requlare lube grove is fine.

Anneal your brass then overnight tumble it, belling the case mouth helps too but don't size the brass. I sized mine once and it took it a bit to small for the 40 cal cores. If you are really bored you can sort the brass and cores by weight. Usually by the grain or two is fine.

Other then that just read up a bit on all the usefull posts on this project, see if you find any thing you may have questions on.

I know it's called a "one-step" die, but do we need to seat the cores before running the bullets into the die?

If so, what do you use for a seater?

Recieved first shippment of 44 cal dies today. Should have first orders sent out soon, like by the end of the month I imagine

No need to seat core, just needs to fall into jacket and your good to go!

Will keep you all posted. I see many questions here I will be able to help with. I'll certainly get to them as soon as I can.

    Thanks

BT - would you do a conversion to this set from a standard CH4D .44 swage set? I already have their 101-series in .44 but am interested in your version, especially if it would save $ to use my set as the "donor".

First two orders are all ready. Will ship Monday. Bullets look great!

Yes I can offer my heavy duty internials for those that all ready have stock CH dies. Cost is $100 for each individual die + $5 shipping. Makes the CH dies really work they way they are supposed to.
