    Savage 340, no serial, age?

When did Savage produce the model 340? Is it unusual or impossible to find one without a serial number? I thought all centerfires had a serial number, even before the GCA of '68.

Could this rifle possible be a C&R, IE, more than 50 years old?

Not uncommon to find a gun without a serial # before GC 68. It is usually the less expensive 22's . Gianni.
