Saturday Mail arrived with my stone

It's here and bigger than I expected and as advertised. No flats but I didn't expect any major flat spots with the way it was advertized. It can certainly be used to sharpen blades of different types and I intend to try flattening it by sliding it back and forth against my concrete driveway. I'll post again if that has success but as a mountain man sharpening stone, something carried in a possibles bag, it fits the bill.

I was going to say .... you can use a cinder block or piece of sandstone landscaping rock to flatten it if you want a large flat area. It helps to cut it with water from a hose while you're doing it.

I don't have my stones yet either but going by the pictures, it is what I expected. I remember watching old westerns, & mtn men shows & it looks like what I've seen them use on TV.

I guess I thought they'd have a useable flat on them, but I'll figure it out.

Not perfectly flat but certainly usable. I think mine are pretty cool. One for me and one for my son when he gets older. I sharpened my swiss army knife on it. It is a bit more agressive than most of my stones, but then that was what I was hoping for.

I've got no skin in this game but have some experiance in cutting, grinding and lapping stone. If you want to make a flat you could spread some valve grinding compound on a steel plate and rub the stone to wear a flat. A figure 8 pattern works best. Other things that will cut stone fairly well are silicon carbide grinding wheels, bench stones, or wet or dry sand paper use wet to keep the dust from clogging the surface. Best are diamond grit tools as used in cutting tile and brick.

I am stil waiting for mine but I use a dry wall 120 grit sanding screen to flatten out my waterstones. It cuts very quickly and should work well on these.
    Hope it comes tomorrow!!!

one way to flatten them out is to glue a piece of wet/ dry sandpaper to one side of your table saw. Ive never used it to flatten stone, but it works well for metal grinding. Good luck Fellas. Watch your fingers.

My "sharpening stones" finally arrived in the mail. The tracking number doesn't show any scanning other than when the postage was purchased, and when the package made it to the local facility for delivery....no scan to show when and where it was first dropped off.

Anyway, for those of you who might of thought I was "bustin' his stones", just wait....what I received were just shards of rock with no flat surfaces. If someone were to try and flatten these, there wouldn't be any left! The "large" looks like it might work as a stone axe.

I find it difficult to believe that someone would have the nerve to sell this stuff. Its no wonder that he didn't post pictures.

Every stone I sent out was usable. As I stated many times in my post. These are sharpening stones similar to what you would find at a rendezvous as a replica. It's all a matter of opinion. As I stated earlier ... I took three 5 gallon buckets to rendezvous several years ago, and I couldn't keep them long enough to look at. It all depends on what circles you run in as to what your tastes are. Many people find them desirable. Sorry you didn't.
