I voted for Winchester since that is all I own right now, a model 94 30-30 that has a smooth action and shoots so sweet.

But I do have my eyes on a Marlin 44 mag 1894 Deluxe and a Henry 22LR Frontier Octagon barrel for a fun plinker.

Bought a Rossi 45 colt for my son whos stationed at Ft Benning GA, so he could hunt hogs with somehting short and handy. Factory ammo is anemic and costly so I started working on a good hog load for him. Immediately decided I needed one for myself and bought the second in 45 colt also. I voted Rossi because I couldnt afford the time or cost for an original, especialy fora gun thts going to be dragged thru the mud , water and etc in the swamps of GA. The SS Rossi certainly filled the bill for this working application. It can also safely hurl a 300gr XTP at an astonishing velocity for a short cartridge. Ive got a Browning BL22 also, and its as slick as snailsnot but its too modern, too glossy, just doesnt feel like a well used tool. The Rossi won hands down in that contest. Havent had much experience with the others, but I know there are other winners out there.

My go too gun is a model 99 takedown in 300 savage. I've had this gun for 36 years with zero problems and it shoots as good as I can. I also have a pre 64 model 94 and a 39A that I like (I shoot left handed) but I always thought the M99 engineering was ahead of it's time. My 99 must have started out life as a 30 30 as the cabiler was X'd out and restamped when I aquired it.

Lord, make me fast and accurate. Let my aim be true and my hand faster than those who would seek to destroy me. Grant me victory over my foes and those that wish to harm to me and mine. Let not my last thought be “If only I had my gun”; and Lord if today is truly the day that You call me home, let me die in a pile of brass.

I am out of town, enjoy your holidays.

    Where's the option for "YES"???

I have a Henry .22, a Winchester .30-30 and a Rossi .454/.45LC. I somehow find myself in between Marlins at the moment. I need to remedy that and hold you guys responsible for any trouble it causes with my better half.

Golly gee - so many lever guns it is difficult to choose.
Savage and marlin come to the top. The Rossi copy of the 92 is up there
The win 88 and the BLR are nice guns but not to my taste - but I own one of each just in case I feel the urge to shoot them.

It really is a tossup between a couple of Savage 99s and the Marlin 336, and Marlin 95
The savage 99s do well with the 311465 and 311466. The 336 is a slick and smooth hunter with 150 grain lee bullets sized to .310 and the 45/70 has been a joy to shoot.

marlin, but the 2 win 71's that have been in the family since new are a close second.

I have three Winchester 94's (2 .30-30's and a .32 Spl vintage of 1937) and a Henry .22LR. As much as I like the Winnies, the Henry is the most fun to shoot and the smoothest action by far. I find that the best ammo for the Henry is Wolf Match Target -- it sure is "dirty" but it sure does shoot nice groups. s YMMV

Winchester 94 forever, light load 30/30 150 gr cast at about 1000fps. It just dont get any better.

True gun control, is hitting where you aim.

Don't feel badly, Fenring, because I have that Ruger also. I like the idea of shifting into the next gear with my little finger. The Ruger has 20 twist which is a might much for full loads, as the newest Winnies have 26 inch which seem to be about perfect for carbine boolits (less than 350 grains). ... felix

I have both a 1892 Win in 25-20 and Marlin 336 in 30-30. Love them both Just don't care for the micro groove in the marlin for cast boolits.

Marlin , closely followed by Winchester & Rossi almost in a dead heat .

This is of what I own . And based in some part on price vs. performance .

Although , Marlins seem to be getting $$$ . Based on that , Rossi may soon edge Marlin out of first place in my mind ( if you do not intend to scope the rifle ) .

My impression is Henry's are too $$$ & I have some questions on how they are constructed ?

I also do not know much about the Mossburg (sp) ?

    God bless
    Wyr
