I love the Marlins, I have 1894 pre safeties in .357 and .41 mag. Both microgrove and both like heavy bullets which are mostly driving bands.
Just picked up a pair of 336 marlins. A 1974 .35 Remington and a 1977 .30/30. They look like they have been used but taken care of.
The 30/30 is a shooter under 2 moa. Haven't played with the .35 yet.
I don't have a lever action rifle* (yet), but when I do, I hope to get a Savage Model 1899**...what cal.? I don't care, I'll find the rifle first, then get to the details later LOL!!! Really though...I'd be happy with .30-30 or .300 Savage, both of which I know little about. Why do I "need" a Savage Model 1899?, I don't really hunt, nor do I live where I can hunt with a rifle anyway, I don't get to shoot nearly as much as I like to...which is nil. I guess I just want one LOL.

*If a Mk.II Martini-Henry Rifle counts as a "lever action", then technically I do own one.
** Is the Savage Model 1899 and Savage Model 99 the same rifle?, I've heard both terms used.

The 1899 and 99 are the same the 95 is pretty close. lol
No reason to need a 99 to want one. lol
I was under the impression they were the same. I can see having one in my future, might take a while, but I can wait LOL!

IIRC the ones made before the 1,000,000 mark are more desirable. There were some subtle changes at some point, and that may be it. I know there were a little change when they started chambering them in the 308 family. In my opinion the later models with the detachable mag are the least desirable.
I'm going to have to do a bit more research on the Savage 99, I did not know the later versions had a detachable magazine. I tend to go for the older versions of firearms I buy. I've never bought a brand new gun ever, and odds are it will stay that way for the foreseeable future LOL. I do want a Savage 99 though, but it might take a bit of saving and searching and that is fine with me.

Desirable is in the eye of the person putting the money out. The 99C has a detachable magazine and to anyone but the most serious collector is not desirable. It stabs at the soul of the 99 which is the rotary magazine. The 99E has the cheapest wood stocks ever on them. But they make great guns for conversions. I'm not a fan of the crescent stocks. 99R and 99EG are what most want w/ their brass rotary magazines w/ counters, semi embellished stocks and lever safeties. Either way you can't go wrong. I should have started collecting them earlier because their price point makes it tough to buy a lot. And they go up on price every day.
got 1899 savages in 22 hipower, 32-40, and 303; 1894 winchesters: 16" 32 special, 26" 32 special, and a 26" 25-35, and marlins in (39a) 22 rimfire, 336a 30-30, 336a 32ws and 336a 35 rem. love 'em all; shoot the 22 savage the most, get the best groups with the 32-40 and the marlin 32, reload for all but the 22 rimfire, and cast for all but that'n, the 35, and the 25, so far. made more meat with my muzzleloaders, though, and a blr in .308 that i no longer own. oh, yeah; if you count a martini as a levergun, i got one of those in 32 special, too.
mind yer topknots!

I now have more Marlins than Savages. Need to fix this issue pronto
So do I and that is sad, but marlins are a lot easier to come by than winchesters, much less savages. I was too dumb to buy savages when I could pick them up regularly for 2 to 250 all day long. I bought and gave away several marlins and win 94's before I ever decided to keep one for myself, once I did they have multiplied several times. lol
My one and only lever gun is a Winchester Ranger in .30-30. The gun had been laying under a bed on carpet that had gotten wet. Rusted badly on the exterior. The owner was throwing it away, and asked if I wanted it, I said sure.
I took it to my smith who looked at it and said the barrel and action was just fine. He parkerized it. It ain't pretty but it shoots just fine, though I must admit that the recoil is memorable.
I have marlin levers in 45-70, 45c, 357, 35 rem (two of them), 30-30, and 32 long colt (all JM stamped). Think they are breeding on me

Have a Winchester 1886 but the Marlin 1895 is the smoothest and most ammo tolerant action I ever owned.
Have 2 Guide Guns in 45-70 and they'll digest just about anything.

Another bewildered traveler, on the information superhighway!
I have two Marlins, a 1951 336 in 35 Rem, pre-micro groove rifle not carbine! The other as Marlin 30AS 30-30 rebored to a 5 groove 38-55! I did buy a Winchester 94 AE 44 mag. Trapper today, but it's for the gun shop!
