    I am in lust!!!

Took wife shopping yesterday out of town. I was good while shopping so she let me stop at a chain sporting goods store. In the case it was shooting beams of light and saying come hold me! As the sales clerk took the Ruger LCR from the display case I could hear the angels singing! Holding it in my hand I felt as if I had sinned and was not worthy!

Needless to say I really liked the look and feel of this gun! I know it has gotten some mixed feedback. I am wanting one to carry when off duty, I think this will fit the bill! Very lightweight, and quality made! Hard to believe this gun weighs a little more than a can of barley pop unloaded!, felt lighter than that in my hand! The model I looked at was a 38+p, I am holding out for a 357. Sales clerk says they haven't had any in yet.

I am wondering if anyone who has shot one or owned one can give some reviews? Any load data you can give?

jgr, welcome to Castboolits. If that LCR is that light I can just imagine how much fun it is to shoot. However the claim is, is that it's a lot more forgiving than an all metal frame at absorbing recoil...Ray

Haven't got an lcr, just too in love with my Glock 40 cal.
Where abouts in central Illinois you from?

By the way that was an interesting way to say how the lcr cried out to you.
I've had those moments but never could put it into words like that.

My LEO nephew has one and fondling it has me in lust for a 357. The 357 has SS frame while the 38 has aluminum and is thus a bit heavier. I do not intend to shoot hot loads.

    Lcr

Thanks for the replies and compliments! I am South of Effingham. I don't plan on loading it until it blows to pieces. Won't be my normal shooter just something to slide in the pocket when the 22 Glock cannot be carried. I can carry concealed legal because of my job. Even in the open. However i choose not to offend or draw attention to myself so I like to keep it unseen. I had read the 357 were a little heavier, a little weight wouldn't hurt. I had also read the recoil is absorbed really well. The grips felt really good too!

    Plastic or steel

I think the shooting world will soon be divided between those that like plastic guns and those that like real ones made of steel. It will be much like the divide between liberal and conservative. God help us.

    Gopher,
I don't think the divide will ever get as big as that between conservatives and liberals. We will all have the love of guns in common no matter which one we like whereas there doesn't seem to be anything that conservatives and liberals have in common other than living on the same planet.

Hey jgr, I'm from central Ill. too. Closer to Peoria. I really like my LCP. I do NOT like the LCR, because it is too thick. The LCR can be carried in a pocket, and no one will ever know. I have a few gun-savvy guys on my dept., and none of them had any idea I was carrying it daily in my front pocket. After 6 months, I finally showed some of them, and they all smirked and said they had no idea. That's why I like it. There's virtually no way to make it print.

As far as the recoil, yes, it's a little stout, but if you're shooting a Glock 22, it won't be as bad as that! I've got a couple hundred rounds through mine, and was also pleasantly amazed at the accuracy for such crappy and small sights. At 10 yards, I was getting head-size groups, and that was in the winter when my hands were cold and teeth were chattering. It's my daily carry, on and off duty. Sometimes when I'm in the office doing reports, my duty belt is in the locker, but the LCP is always in my pocket.

I am in Effingham here. i wouldn't call Peoria central Il but not going to argue! I like the looks of the lcp, and know it is very popular. I have heard mixed reveiws on the lcp mostly good, but most negative comments I hear is it is to small to handle. What do you think? What ammo you carrying in it? Are you carrying it in a holster in the pocket? If so what? The superfly by Desantis looks promising. The lcp is about $100 less than the lcr too.

There was a recall on SOME LCPs, so you want to stick to a newer one. I think there is a website called something like ElsiePee.com or some such where they have all the info on what serial numbers to stay away from.

I carry in a holster, but I have no clue who made it. It was gifted to my by my mentor and had no markings on it. It's actually made for a Walther TPH, but the thing I like about it is that the trigger guard of the LCP hangs up on it, and keeps the LCP up out of the bottom corner of the pocket. Makes it easier to reach with a nonchalant hand in the pocket (rather than digging to the bottom of the pocket) and it keeps the weight from causing it to print. It's also unorthodox, but I'm a little of that too, so it works for me.

I'm carrying Hornady Critical Defense in it. Found a case of the stuff at the gunshow in New Berlin last Fall and bought a few boxes. It was the first and last of it I've seen in a long time. Cost me a little over a dollar per round... I've fired a whopping three rounds of it, just to make sure it fed and functioned and hit point of aim. I wanted to get to the range with some gelatin this Summer, but it hasn't happened... Maybe this Fall/Winter.

The dealer who had the CD ammo also had some lasers for it, and after playing with one, I think I want it. It was easily observable from across the gymnasium, and it would really help compensate for the poor sights on the thing. (But those sights never snag, so I'm not really complaining about them.)

For the rest of the shooting I've done with it, I load the Lee 102gr LRN I cast out of WW+2% tin over 3.0grs of W231. That's a stout load for such a little gun. It comes back in your hand, but muzzle flip won't be near what you get with your G22.

I carry a G21 on-duty and I'm the dept.'s Glock Armorer, so I shoot 40 and 45 Glocks quite frequently. Between the G-22, G-23, G-21, and LCP, the G-23 is the worst in the recoil dept. On the other hand, I haven't sat down and shot all 200 rounds through my LCP in one sitting, and I wouldn't want to. The narrow, short grip isn't exactly fun to shoot. I usually shoot 20-50 rounds per outing with the LCP and call it good. I've also shot it with quite a bit of pocket lint, and it handled it just fine. Not a jam-amatic like some complain, at least in my experience.
