    #4 ogive .224?

I've got a #6 ogive for .224" swaging that has worked out really well for use in my AR-15 so far going with a 61gr open tip bullet, using wolf .22 brass. I'm curious if anybody has gone with a smaller ogive like a 4 or 5 and what kind of results they have had with it. I'm looking at making lighter bullets but also going with less of an ogive. The only thing that worries me by just backing out the point form die and doing the same thing is amount of bearing surface.

I swage short-ogive bullets for my AR's. For intermediate distances, they work very well-- no need at all for worry about bearing length negatively affecting accuracy or safety. Most people want (or think they need) the longest ogive that they can make, and are totally uninterested in short ogive bullets, but short ogive bullets shoot fine. Good luck.

I have made 6 ogive 40 gr bullets using 22 short cases as well. My experience has been that they don't shoot as well as the ones made on 22 long rifle cases. I think I was running out of bearing surface. Here is where I think a 4 ogive or less would really shine. They would look like a lot of the bullets you see made for the 22 Hornet and such.
