Just replaced the blades and knives on the straw chopper on my 9610 john deere combine. Not sure of the metal. but it must be pretty good as they have chopped well over 50000 acres. The blades measure 8 1/2" x 1 3/4" x 3/16 thick, with a hole on one end that takes up about an inch. The knives are 7 1/2" x 1 3/4" x 1/16 thic, also with a hole on the end. I think they would be best used if they are forged. The price is right as all I want is postage.
Do you know what steel it is? What would it cost to send3-4 of them to Oak City Utah 84649

I would'nt think it would be much to ship em. Not sure on the steel and have no idea how one would find out. I just thought that maybe someone would want to give them a try. If you want I could ck on postage. [I]f it's acceptable I will send 4 and you can mail me back postage.

There are 36 thick ones and 35 thin ones. I got a flat rate box and I can fit 15 thick and 3 thin or probably all the thin or a combo of each. Not real sure if the thin ones will be much good as they get even thinner at the wear portion of them. Thought I would just throw a couple in the box just to see.

Price of one blade? I'm not charging and people are allready trying to make money. Might just throw em in the scrap iron.
They're yours to do with as you wish. In your OP, you stated that you had no idea as to blade material. Knowing the hardness of the steel wouldn't necessarily positively ID the material, but would help the user identify the best use for the material. I offered to perform a service, for a quid pro quo. If you're offended, I'll withdraw the offer, and still get cake on my birthday.

.............When my daughter and I restored a '55 Ford pickup, I put in a 'Smoothie' spring pack with a reversed eye over the new Ford 9" rear axle. With the new master reversed eye leaf you discard every other leaf in the stock leaf stack. I saved them all to make knife bladesSteve, my buddy I grew up with had a grandfather who owned a filling station, and he'd made him a hunting knife out of a leaf spring. I still have the springs and having seen Steve's knife that's why I saved them. It's been 16 years now and I still haven't made a knife yet. No sense rushing into anything!
He used a deer antler as a handle, and Steve still has it and uses it every year. According to Steve he says he can put an edge on it unlike anything else, but it won't hold it's edge as long as the modern knife blades, but he can't put an edge on the new ones like the leaf spring blade.

The original Ruana (sp) blades were all leaf springs, and an owner of several of his knives told me the maker wanted springs from one year of one make of car. If memory serves me correctly, 51 Studebaker. Try finding one of those today!
15 years, heck I have a Husky 5500 7 MM Mag that I have had that long and have not shot it yet!
