Congrats! I love mine. Do you plan on shooting Smallbore Lever Silhouettes with it? What barrel length?

One of those little buggers runs 2-3x the price of a 30-30 here. Seems like a good deal from that perspective. Hope its a shooter. Take down?

I believe it is the 20" barrel, Was so happy to finally find one I didn't ask, and it is a takedown. Here is a link to the ad, http://www.rugerforum.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=88039 Crabo, It will be used to practice for SASS.

When I bought my Marlin M57 Levermatic 22LR the same guy had a Marlin 39A sitting next to it, I still may go back for it. I'm looking forward to seeing pics of yours! Great lever guns!

    Crabo,

Either one works for me, Katie would like the 20" better, But at 6'4" I would prefer a 24"

The link/pic shows a Model 39a Rifle, which is issued only with a 24" barrel; the straight-gripped Mountie & M39D are the ones with shorter tubes.

ALL Marlin 39 & 39a's, etc are split-receiver type takedown rifles.

    I have two M39a's, an open-sighted 1946 version & a Williams-peeped 1955.

With selected ammo (each has a different preference), they will both keep all their shots under a dime @ 50yds, IF I do my part.

They're great rifles - I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoy mine.

Put a tang sight on that puppy and start shooting some silhouette matches and that will really round out your CASS shooting.

Bought mine used in 1990 for $150 at a hock shop in Longmont Colorado. 24" barrel. Love it. Ordered parts from Marlin in 1994 as it wouldn't feed. Runs like a top now. Keep it lubed. That is what wore out the parts from the original owner/owners.
