    Need 6.5 Carcano Recommendations

I am in the market for a light plinking load for m38 carcano.
I need to find a mould and a load.
I like Lee Aluminum moulds because they are cheap.
    I have the follwoing powders
    IMR 4895
    IMR 4064
    2400
    Bullseye
can anyone make any recommendations out of that info?

Lee doesn't make a 6.5 mold, and few make molds that cast big enough for the Carcano, which often have a .268 groove diameter, check BRP products in the vendor sponsor section, they do. I'll let others tell you about loads.

Try about 8 gr Unique, this may bump up a boolit to fit. I have had it work in a few
old milsurps with odd or oversized bores. I use 10 gr in the larger cases, but wouldn't
want to do more than about 8 in the little Carcano case.

If it was easy, anybody could do it.

Actually they do. It is sold by Midsouth. Affectionately known as the "Cruise Missile". Here is it flanked by a .22RF, .17HMR and a .303 projetile of the same weight (175gr).

My Carcano shoots it well over 25gr H4350 topped off with 8gr of BPI shotgun buffer. I get oval holes suggesting a wobbly bottom but 2 MOA at 100m is pretty good.

I shoot the same boolet sized at .270 over 14.5 grs of 2400.
I shoot this in about a dozen different carcano, and it does
pretty well in all of them.

I bought some pre-cast .277 boolits I sized to .269, then loaded up with 8-10gr of Unique, like shooting a .22 rimfire.

Has anyone shot the cruise in a non military barrel?.My swede has a tobler barrel that has a normal sporting chamber so I'm thinking the CM may be too long. Pat

Oops, forgot about that being a Lee product. If you want to go real light, and real slow for plinking, #2 buckshot is .270" I have a Japanese Type I (Carcano) that I'm going to try some of them in someday

Thanks, Jeff. Got it on order. Next question - where do you get a .270 sizer? and .. which gas checks work on that mold?

Yes, good question. BUCKSHOT, one of our members might be worth a try. Failing that Lee will custom make for you - check their site. Or you can get the closest die available from Lyman/RCBS and hone it out. Takes a while but works. I took a .313 to .3165.....eventually.

6.5mm gas checks work fine. I have a Freechex II that Charlie made to spec for me. Makes SWEET checks with 0.0118 material.
