Anyone ever made a Cramer .44 cal. 300gr. H.P?

I just picked up a Ruger 96/44 today. I've been reading about "Silent Destroyers" tossing out 300 gr bullets and I'm intrigued by this idea. I'll prolly be making this rifle into my own Form 1 internally suppressed rifle (silent destroyer).

Anyhow, I was thinking that the best boolit for this rifle would be a 300 gr hollow point based on a Kieth, or the HP 45 2.1 design in this thread (with only one crimp groove of course) http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?t=95056

Has such a boolit ever been designed and made? If not what do you folks think of the idea?

You know, on second thought, this may be a bit long for the rotary magazine of the Ruger 96/44. How about a 300 gr solid that has the hollow point weight fall where ever it falls?

That boolit in the second link looks almost ideal. IMHO, with a traditional lube groove and cramer hollow point design it would be perfect. I wonder if such a design on a group buy would be possible.

I've also read on another site that feeding is fine for most any boolit up to 300 grains.

I notice that most all 300 gr .44 boolits are gas checked. In your openion is the gas check needed?

IMO the Lee clone group buy is in fact the one to use with that rifle, I have the first one Al listed, in fact a solid mould and a hollow point. These are both great boolits but won't feed in that rifle, the nose is way too long. I'm in the Lee group buy too for a 5 cavity solid non-checked boolit. NOE doesn't do Cramer hollow points, but their RG 2 and RG 4 are great moulds for hollow points, somewhat simpler in design, but they work good and are just as fast IMO.

I see that it has something sticking out the bottom of the mold. Will this interfer with the mold support on my RCBS bottom pour smelter? Can anyone describe, or show a picture of what an "RG 2" and "RG 4" is? Sounds like it's what I'm looking for but not sure.

Not exactly. Notice the step up on the forward driving band. I've read to stay away from that profile of bullet on the 96 as it sometimes will hang up on that step up. The Lee copy looks good but I'm not sure if the hollow point system will work with my bottom pour RCBS.

I just bought a 2 cavity brass Cramer style gas check mold from Miha. It casts a 298gr hollow point and a 313gr flat nose when you reverse the pins. The bullet measures .432, just as advertised, and is .855in long. It has 2 crimp grooves and 1 lube groove. I think he only had the one because it's no longer on his website. I just guessed it was a leftover from a GB here so I grabbed it. I ordered it on a Sunday night and it was here, all the way from Slovenia, on Friday. Sounds like just the bullet you want.

Excellent! That explains how it works. Very inovative but it looks like it will interfer with the guid rode on the RCBS pot. I guess the 2 and 4 refer to the number of cavities. . .

Much appriciated but I e-mailed Miha about the mold Midnight mentioned and he had more in stock. I've ordered one from him. IIRC it drops a 295 hollow point and a 305 solid. It also has THREE crimp grooves so I'm sure it will function in the 96's rotary magazine.
