Birthday present for tired old eyes!

Well I mounted a scope on my 03A3 (no gun smithing mount) here is what it looks like now.

What are you going to do for a cheek rest? Something in leather with a laced leather string would look nice.

How well does the rifle hold zero with that mount? It looks pretty handy if you did not have any gunsmith work to do.

Haven't been to the range yet, I got it NIB off Ebay for $40 it is a "SUN OPTICS" brand here is the site http://www.sunopticsusa.com/desc_col_mil_scmounts2.html
They have several scope mounts for various military rifles all no drill and tap.

Would love to hear how that mount works out for you -- I have an 03 and an 03A3 that I would like to scope, but don't want to alter them.

I just returned from the range, the wind got up to about 50mph so that shot any accuracy attempt. So I put the target at 50 yards as it is somewhat protected to there, and I shot 30 rounds of 200gr LRNGC boolits with 60gr WC860 powder and was real surprised with the wind such as it was and it was switching from SW to SE I kept all in a 2.75" circle and had no lead and that load I cronoed it at 1980-2015 the other day so it wasn't a slow load. Looks like the mount has promise. It is very simple to install about a 15 minute job and for $40 + you can't go too wrong.

I use one on my K-31 and love it.

Very nice 03A3. I don't know what is happening to me. For years I have not paid any attention to military arms. I purchased an M1 Garand the other day and all of the sudden I am wanting an 03 also. Theres something about those old rifles that I really like. I only wish I had gotten this hankering before things got so expensive! Thanks for sharing your pics.

Well if you get one then you will want another then you will get into antiques and then you will have no money as you have to have special moulds, dies, and brass. Have fun! Ask me how I know? if you get a 45/70 then all other modern calibers will seem ho-hum JMHO.
