Hollow Pointing a #429348? Is This Crazy Talk...

I had traded batches of 180 gr WC from a Lyman #429348 with another forum member several times... He's shooting them in a smaller .44 special, and says his kids enjoy shooting these light loads. Then he told me he's HPing them by hand!

I've got a single cavity of this now, in addition to the DC I started out with. I'm wondering about sending it off to be HP'd. I know plenty of folks shoot hollow based WC's backwards for similar effect, has anyone tried HPing a boolit this short?

Send it to Erik & have him cup point it. It doesn't take much vel to get a soft gup point to expand & they tend to not fragment for deeper penetration. I had him make a cup point pin for my 44DEV mold. Works well at low & high vel.

Get the hollow point accessory for a FORSTER-APPELT (SP?) case trimmer if you can access one. I'd try them a little before I hollow pointed either discontinued and expensive mould. Eric and Buckshot do nice work, but you can't return the mould to original.

You have me inspired to dig out the case trimmer and hollow pointer for the clone of LYMAN 429352 from OLD WEST BULLET MOULDS that I've been playing with. It sure makes impressive holes in targets. Get another mould and have it set up for craemer style hollow points or cup points...wow!

Buckshot was offering drill jigs for hollow pointing a while back, maybe he still is-
I agree, altering a collector's item without knowing if it will work well might not be first option.

Oops- Not Buckshot, it was JIMinPHX who offered the hollow point jigs.

It seems either of the jig systems is the cheaper way to try this out, let alone the question of altering a collector item.

I got one from Jim, it works! Get a couple of sizes of drill guides.
I got a #3 centerdrill size for the countersink cone shape (kinda like a cup point),
and a #3 regular drill size, bigger is better for 44, I guess.

Shown is a 38 with the centerdrill.

I got a couple of Jim's jigs for HP's & do 9MM, 40's and 45's and it works great. Even got him to make me a holder so I can cut the base off 40 S&W's that I have swaged! Good Guy!

I've just written JIMinPHX. This looks like something I'd like to have. I'm not crazy about the Forster product because it has to be done to a loaded round. That may not be a great issue but one of the boolits I want to HP I shoot out of my Ruger Old Army.

Don't tell anyone but that's why I got a couple of funny size boolit booshings (sp?).
Seems like it would be safe enough.
Figure if it becomes necessary I can turn a bunch of cheap target ammo into meat-getters, or whatever.
It is a little slow but the HP size is repeatable.

WOW! I want these... I have been looking on some way to get my lead cast to do HP. VERY, VERY expensive to buy a mold that makes them. This is sweet.

How much for them>?
Need one in 44 mag, 9mm and perhaps a 357. It really for a 35 rem.
