Who Has an El Cheapo Supremo Digital Scale? Test Weighed Some Boolits July 21, '10

Can somebody point me to a good digital scale for handloading and weighing boolits that is also very inexpensive? Maybe $25 max.

    thanks

Got one from Midway a while back. Less $20.
Have one from Harbor Freight as well. About $15

I got a Lyman micrometer a while back for less than $25. Carbide anvils, smooth as silk,
measures exactly like a lower end Mitutoyo mike.

You must consider shipping as well. To order something alone is not economical at all.

Is there a Northern Equipment near you?? I have seen cheapy calipers there as well.
    Might be worth a look.

I can see this isn't going to be as easy or el cheapo as I wanted. I'll come back to this over the next couple days and compare some of the WEIGHT scales from fleabay. I think I was overly optimistic about the $25 limit.

I bought two from evil-bay and both work fine. I uses a dillon but it's nice to have backups for range work. Neither one cost more than $20 so have at it. The both do grains, grams, carots and do .01.

I don't have one, but Midsouth has the "Smart Reloader" scale for just under $12 on sale right now. Might be worth a try. Billy

I like Midsouth. I've done a lot of business with them the last couple years.

This is $26 and 1500 grains capacity but it doesn't tell me the accuracy.
    http://www.midsouthshooterssupply.co...ku=00005050107

MTM $30 but only .1 grain accuracy.
    http://www.midsouthshooterssupply.co...ku=00008DS1250

SMART RELOADER 750 GRAIN MICRO SCALE $11.80
Doesn't say how accurate it is...?
    http://www.midsouthshooterssupply.co...sku=00047SR750

This one on fleabay is $42 + $9.50 shipping. Has 1200 grain capacity but
    only .1 grain accuracy.
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWAX:IT

Now this one has only 20 gram capacity (308 grains) but accuracy is .001 gram accuracy which is .015 grains. That's very sensitive for $38 + $9 shipping.. from Hong Kong.
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWAX:IT

At the moment I'm not casting anything heavier than 250 grains but that could change. For small increment powder weights .1 gr or .2 gr just isn't accurate enough. My primary scale is a RCBS 1010. I really want the digital scale to weight cast boolits FAST to sort through them.

At least now you know my criteria. Real cheap looks to be out of the picture. I guess I'll have to up the minimum to $50.

The only one listed that is more sensitive than .1 grain is the last one. The Hornady scale I had for a bit, but is only accurate to .2. The Smart Reloader is supposed to be accurate to .1, but you are looking for more. Sorry, but I don't know of any others. Billy

I just bought the Smart Reloader from Midsouth. Havent used it a lot, but seemed dead on against my check weights.
I think I paid $12 bucks for it.

I have purchased three scales from EVIL-Bay that sell for that amount shipped and they all work perfect. The brand is Digi-Weigh a 100 model. I like them so much that I have one in my gun room, reloading room and casting shop. I have checked them against my 10-10 several times and have never found a mistake. I had purchased a RCBS for over $100 and after using these I sold the RCBS. They are pocket size and weigh in four different modes.

Nice 5 yr warranty but only .15 gr accuracy.

If you load small handgun powder charges of 3.5 grs, for example, that's not very accurate. Even though I said I wanted a digital scale mostly for weighing cast boolits I still need to critique suggestions as to obvious disadvantages. The .1 gr to .2 gr accuracy level isn't very good. It seems typical but I'm unconvinced..... so far.

    thanks for the suggestions.

I have used the cheap one from Midsouth for 2 yrs. always checks right with the check weights and within 0.1 grain against my beam scale. I like the tare function especially.

If you get a battery powered scale - be sure to find out how long it stays on before the "battery saver" shuts it off. I had one (for a very short time) that shut off after 10 seconds.

I have 2 digiweighs. the DW-500BZ and the DW 100-AS. the 500 cost me $27 at a computer show and the 100 cost about $18(amazon?). Both read in oz, g, gn, and carats. For heavy bullets, the 500 is good and I like the 100 for light bullets because it weighs in even tenths of a gn. The 100 reads in whole gn. Two tenths of gn in bullet weight is almost meaningless, IMO, on a 400 gn bullet. They return to zero quickly. Once in a while you have to press tare to get the reading back to o weight. I am satisfied with both.

Absolutely and I agree as far as weighing bullets goes. But I load for .380 acp, 9x19, .38 Special. All of those can use very small powder charges even down to 2 grains of some fast powders. I think I'm trying [too hard!] to fit one digital scale to all my possible needs and that may not be practical.

I will say I'm learning more than I thought I would in this thread. I may go for the $12 one from Midsouth. You guys say it'll hold .1 gr accuracy and I'll believe you. Besides, I want to order the new Lyman 4th edition cast bullet manual... when it finally comes in!! So that'll give me an excuse to add a couple items to the order.

    much thanks

The problem with .1 accuracy is that if you are loadinf, i.e., 2.3 gr of powder, your scale of .1 accuracy will show 2.2 or 2.4. the 100AS does not show odd tenths. So, .1 accuracy can give you a .2 dispersion.

    I believe that's in Metric gram's, not grain's.
