460 mag and 5744 with cast boolits

I posted in another section of the forum but didn't get any responses, so I will try here. I was looking for advice on how fast I could push a cast PB 270 grain boolit with 5744 in my Smith 460 xvr.

Here is the other thread I started: http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?t=158529

I like 5744 with a 240 j word bullet at 1400 fps, but I am not sure if I should stick with Jwords at that speed, try my copper plated bullets, or if I can reliably run my cast boolits to that speed and save some money. I just use this gun for plinking at the range. I haven't had a chance to shoot past 50 yards with it yet.

Any advice would greatly be appreciated.

I can't answer your question but I do like 5744. I can load 18 grains in 357 case and fit in a 105swc CB in it. They shoot great. I also load 44 mag with it. You should be able to work up your load. 5744 lights up easy and is nice and gradual to work with.

    I don't get any leading with 5744 at 1500.

If you are running light loads of 5744, do yourself a favor and try a magnum primer. I and others have tried this in very light loads of 13.5 to 15 gr in the 32-40 and have seen lower std deviations and extreme spreads and with better accuracy. It works with 300MP also.
