    Monotype (again)

    Melted the monotype then recast 67 ingots (RCBS ingot mold) today, Learned a couple things.
    First; Monotype does not cool as fast as lead. It looked solid, but when I dumped it out of the RCBS mold, the first ingots leaked and fell apart.
    Second; the metals, tin-antimony-lead, seperate and absolutely requires fluxing.
    Third; The ingots ring like aluminum, not lead, when dumped out of the mold.

    I expect to mix this 1 to 20 for casting. It is really hard stuff.

    I use Lyman aluminum molds. As soon as the ingot doesn't slosh if I move the mold, I dunk it for about .5-1 second in a bucket of water I keep at my feet. Not long enough to bring them down below about 350°, but it pulls enough heat that they can be dumped without leaking or breaking. I can run two ingot molds as fast as I can fill them this way.
