    25-20 bullets for black powder

    Hi,

I have a Winchester 1892 in 25-20 that has been completely rebuilt, and I want to load cartridges with black powder. But I can't find a source of 25-20 bullets made for shooting with black powder (cast from softer lead and with black powder lube). Does anyone sell them?

I have never reloaded this cartridge before. The new barrel was built to original Winchester factory specs so I assume the diameter of Winchester bullets, but I have not slugged it to measure the diameter.
50 bullets should be enough to last me several months.

Remember to use flat nosed bullets in a lever action. Not sure if a round nose could dent a primer, especially with such light recoil.
I have a 23B so I can use jacketed spire points, but I also have a few old flatnose lead bullet rounds.

    Thanks guys for your input.
Montana Bullet Works says he only has 25-20 bullets cast from hard lead.
Bullshop is not taking new orders.
I didn't contact runfiverun because I don't think it's safe to use round nose bullets in a lever action.

So I guess I will have to buy a mold and try to find someone locally to cast bullets for me. Can someone tell me which molds would work best for shooting with black powder?

I have used 257312 FNGC 90 gr and 257420 FNGC 65gr in my 25-20 m92, but not with black powder. Both are flat nose. I have never used a round nose in 25-20 as I don't have a suitable mould. I have used 311291 round nose in 30/30 m94 for years with no ill effect. In fact my old lyman cast bullet book says to " use only flat nose or round nose bullets in tubular magazine". my ha-penny

    greenacres,

This bullet from Buffalo Arms Co should work well.
    http://www.buffaloarms.com/browse.cfm/4,80.html

Less expensive here but you would have to relube with SPG

My experience with cast in the .22 W.C.F. is that harder bullets (16 bhn) work just as well with black powder as soft ones (10 bhn). I would think the same would apply to the .25-20.

Sir I don't know why you thought I was not taking orders. I am sure you didn't get that information from us.
We do have a cut off date for casting orders of 4/1 as we do each spring but until then we are taking orders.
It just so happens that we have two original Winchester molds marked 25/20. Both are identical flat nose design accept that one is hollow point. Both are plain base and weigh about 85gn depending on alloy. We do offer custom alloying so you can order exactly what you want.
