    Alliant Promo in handguns ?

Has anybody used this yet ?? it costs 85.00 for 8lbs from grafs as opposed to 111.00 or so for other powders, they say it is the same burn rate at red dot but more dense so a smaller bushung is needed for the same charge weight.

I don't use it, but at my club there many active pistol shooters that use promo in 45 and 9mm. They have no complaints. I will start using it when my surplus AA#2 is gone.

I will ask tonight how many grains they use. I know they shoot 200 grain lead tc boolits in 45 acp.

3.8 to 4.0 grains in a 200 tc lead boolits. This fired out of full size 1911s.

Added: This load qualifies for IDPA.

825 fps for a 200 grain bullet. I know that it has been loaded in 38 & 9 mm but don't have loads for that yet.

The load I gave you was from last years IDPA PA state champion in expert class. He has been shooting promo for several years and tosses downrange at least 12,000 rounds of it a year. There are several other shooters that have used it here over the years, so I feel it has proven itself as a good inexpensive pistol powder. In another month, I will have switched to it too, and I expect no problems.

The reason somewhat that I asked is the gun store where I buy my powders says often people buy it once then switch to something else, that is for shotgun tho.
