    Question Red Cabbage

Anyone else getting cabin fever and planning their garden yet?
We never grew red cabbage before, but I wanted to try some to brighten up some slaw, sauerkraut and pickled cabbage. If I mix red cabbage with green cabbage, will the red cabbage retain it's color or bleed out?

I made red kraut 2 years ago. Much of it is still in the basement. I just can't bring myself to eat pink kraut.

Same goes for coleslaw, it turns the dressing bright pink. It just plain looks foul, not natural, not appetizing.

BTW, My garden planning starts when I am picking the previous year.

HA HA me too. I know this year I am not going to plant as many green beans. Ill bet I got 30 gallons of them last year. We gave a lot of them away and froze alot too. SWMBO came home from the Grocery store a couple of months ago with...... You guessed it canned green beans and we have a freezer full. Man was I ticked. Gonna plant green cabbage again this year. Also gonna protect the lettuce a little better from the rabbits.

Last spring we went from too cool to too hot and dry in rapid succession. Hope to do better this year, they're forecasting a good, wet spring.(We normally have problems with being too dry.)

I've made red kraut and last year I blended in 2 small reds with 4 very large green for kraut. Richbug is right about the looks but it still taste good. It does smeel that red tends to be a little saltier the straight green, maybe you have to back off on the salt when using red.

My wife often wastes perfectly good cabbage making coleslaw. Everyone except her knows the best way to eat cabbage is sauteed in a little bacon grease!

Cabbage, holy smokes, I don't care what is made with it or what color it is. My wife makes the best slaw too but I LOVE cabbage in any form.
Go for the red, it is great!
