    Hardness tester using Mec 600

Read a posting where a guy used his mec 600 shot shell loader to test hardness. The Mec has a gauge to applied 60 lbs pressure to the wad. He put a cut off brass from a shot shell over the wad tube(it is hollow,) then a steel plate a .177 steel BB and his bullet sample He gave a formula BHN= ------- Anyone try tis ? What is the formula? It was on Ammosmith.com under forums Thanks Rick

    same as a lee tester.
you measure the dent and either do the math or use the chart.

    interpretation of YOUR idea

Here is my interpretation of YOUR idea.

tool in shot tube of Mec
    Attachment 20044
tool out of Mec with bullit in holder
    Attachment 20045
tool showing how it slides into shot tube
    Attachment 20046

5/16" steel ball mounted in tool.
Apply 60 lbs.,I think it's 30 seconds of time, use Magnifing glass to measure dimple, check chart to read BHN.

    Hope this helps wistlepig1
