How can I cast a lighter boolit?

I have a steel mold that casts a boolit weight of 114g with a ww mix. Can a mix be made to make it 95g to shoot in a 380? The mold was marked 9mm kurtz
but I would feel better about a lighter boolit.
Any one here shoot a heavy 380?

    Any suggestions will be appreciated,

    Thanks, Mike

You might have to mix up an alloy with more tin in it to lighten up the cast boolit weight. I have noticed that Lyman #2 alloy can give lighter boolit weights. Or first try to add 3 to 5% tin into the WW mix.

You could make the bullet somewhat lighter by adding tin and antimony, but this is likely to make the bullets harder (as cast, air-cooled) which is usually not a good idea unless you need more hardness to achieve accuracy and reliability or to avoid leading. It will also add fairly substantially to the cost of your alloy. It seems to me it would be better to buy a mould that casts the weight of bullet you want in the alloy that shoots best and is most affordable.
Remember, there are likely to be negative metallurgical effects if you allow the amount of tin to exceed the amount of antimony in your alloy. You could use a pure lead/tin alloy, or use high levels of both tin and antimony (e.g. 5/5 alloy) but cost is high and weight is still likely to exceed your target.

Is 20g's asking to much ? I have a feeling its not cost effective.

This may be why they are trying to get a GB for a .380 mould going.

    i'd just get another mold.
you'll spend more for the tin and antimony, then the mold will cost.
that and it would still be too long.

Sounds like you have a mold that cast 100-105gr, so getting to 95 will not happen w/ an alloy change. By adding tin, yo ucan get down close to 105gr I'll bet.

Thanks fellas for all the help. I'll give it another try with a small mixed batch extra tin just for kicks.
