Most accurate 45 LC bullet for YOU.

What is the most accurate 45LC bullet you have in your inventory that you consider to be the Best of the Best for YOU from 250gr up to whatever ? Everyone's revolver is different, but a great bullet design is just that, a GREAT design and will usually shine through when evaluated by a lot of shooters. How much detail you provide is up to you, expound to your hearts content.
This question will help you as much as it will me.

NOE's 454424 255g on top of 9g Unique. Out of my 454SRH It's shooting a ragged hole at 50yrds. I have nothing else that is even close.

    Good evening
My Ruger Blackhawk 7" 45 LC prefers the Lee 265 Round Flat nose. 17 grains of 2400 was going to be my hunting load. Shot 2.5 " at 25 yards me sitting on my backside. Mix was 50/50 . 8 grains Unique same boolit was the most accurate I found. It would stay under 2" from sitting again. That was all the time I had to play with it before it got packed away with the rest.

I use a 454424 HP over 6.5 grains of red dot as my accuracy load in all my 45's. It's proven wonderfully accurate in several different guns.

the 454424 ties with the 452664 in my revolvers and leverguns.
i can shoot the 452 faster though as it takes up a lot less room in the case.

Most accurate .45 Colt bullet -- 454190 at about 800 fps (Win 231, Red Dot, Unique, it doesn't really seem to matter). My favorite .45 Colt bullet for all-round use is the Keith SWC 454424 at about 950 fps.

Lyman's 454190 cast from WW and lubed with LLA. Sub 2" gps at 25 yds sitting with a back rest from my Ruger New Vaquero with it's cylinder throats opened to .4525. I size this bullet to .453". The load is: 7.2 gr of Win 231 although I'm trying HP-38 with the same load, and getting the same pressure indications and gps. Almost new Unique at 8.0 grs. works nearly as well but does not meter well from my Dillion press.

I'm gonna have to list two here. My normal best "using" bullet is the Lyman 454190 hollowpointed. If I want to shoot refrigerators or something big, I'll use the RCBS 45-325-FN-U downsized to .452" over Hodgdon's starting load of Lil Gun.

    That's in a Ruger Blackhawk./beagle

454190 over 9.5-10 grains HS6. Lee 454 or 452 RFN comes close in accuracy if the mould is closing consistently. 452664 for all rifle/pistol cowboy loads, not a tack driver but plenty good and very consistent.

Never really got accuracy that was exceptional with any bullet lighter then 300 grain but if forced to choose one it would be the rcbs 255 swc. My favorite cast bullet for the 45s is probably the 300 rcbs swcgc. Its accurate in everything. The baliistic cast 320 lfngc is anohter have to have mold for me.

If I could only have one it would be Lyman 454190.

In my experience current production 454190 molds tend to throw around .452 in ACWW. Many of the older ones threw in the range of .456 - .458. .452 works fine if you have a reasonably tight 45 Colt chamber. The larger ones work better if you have a gun with a large chamber (Ruger Blackhawks, Winchester 94s, etc) or want to cast a softer alloy.

There was a recent Group buy for a "Cussey 454190"" in Lee blocks at .454-.455. I am waiting for someone (NOE, BABore, Mihec) to do a run of .455+ 454190s, ideally with a 4 cavity block option. I have older Lyman SC and DC blocks which throw the larger size and can afford to be patient.

RCBS 255 SWC is what I feed my Blackhawk with 2400.

I also am having best luck with a Lyman S.C. 454190 out of my Blackhawk. Of course, the throats are just a tad undersized at the moment and I haven't had the opportunity to get that rectified. It drops at .454 with ACWW and I size to .452.

I have one of the above molds. It casts for me at around .456-.457 with ACWW. Sizing to .452 in a Lyman sizer makes weird looking boolits. Just last night, ran some through a Lee .452 sizer and will now lube in the Lyman. They look much better that way.

Let me know if you want to try some as cast and I can send you some, KTW.

Most accurate .45 LC boolit for YOU.

In my Ruger OM Blackhawk, I use either Lyman #454190 or #454424 in 1:16 alloy sized .454", over 8.0 grs. Unique and a CCI Lg. Pistol primer. I find them far superior to any commercial offering, for target or serious work.

I regularly shoot 45 long colt through my 454 Super Redhawk. It is very accurate (and easy to shoot) with 230 grain lead round nose (Lee mold # TL452-230-2R) with liquid alox over 7 grains of red dot.
This load is more accurate than I am

I had a SRH in .454. The experts would tell me "don't shoot .45 Colt in it, it doesn't work." I loaded 250 XTP, 19 grns of 2400 in .45 Colt Starline cases. 5-shots into a quarter at 25 yds. I should have tried using .460 brass w/ the 454.
