    Simple barrel liner project

I mostly lurk around here and have gained some insight and most importantly little bits of information that I sure appreciate. Thanks to all who share their success and failures....I've learned from both.

This project was simple, more simple than I had expected at the outset.
My goal was a break action muzzleloader with a smaller bore, in this case a .348 - .350 (slip fit)

Donor was a CVA Accura 50 caliber
Liner was from T.J.'s, Alexandria, KY, Mike Sayers was very helpfull
My friend Woodgoat, who lent his ear thru this project...more time was spent talking and dreaming than actual work time I think!
And to another friend the great Underclocked for recomending the Accura......

I already have a custom mold from Steve Brooks that will cast a .350 diameter 280 grainer that looks like this....

    Descriptions are above pics

Liner in lathe , squaring up muzzle end

Sanding liner with 320 grit, sanding, fitting and cutting for length took about 2.5 hours

Fitting the liner into the donor

Muzzle taped to keep Devcon off blueing

    Breech plug coated with oil

Mixed Devcon, Don't get the fast set stuff! Get the stuff that takes 90 minutes.

    Liner installed

Tape pulled and standing to cure. I let the gun cure for almost 4 days before I took it out for a test.

    First target, iron sights

Nice work, I have a liner project on the list myself. I'll keep the epoxy tip in mind.

What rifling twist is your liner ?

I searched for a webpage for T. J.'s Gateway Enterprises who makes the liners and did not find one, he is mentioned a LOT of times on many different forums, but it would be nice to see exactly what he makes and what it costs.

Skullmount are you going to post any of this on the muzzleloader forum, a lot of people there would be interested in what you are doing. How tight was the bullet in the barrel, twist, powder, much to learn here. Myself and some others are building some underhammers with quick change barrels and myself have a couple of old barrels that could be recycled and been thinking about doing something similar.

A couple winters ago my friend Woodgoat put together a .350 ml...you can find the info if you do a search "ml dreamin" in that forum. This was a less expensive project because I already had the Brooks mold

Its a "slip fit" bullet...so we want very little contact with the barrel as the bullet is loaded. The liner just barely marks the bullet as it is pushed thru.

I have been only feeling this gun out and mostly shot 40 grains of Swiss fff (volume measured not weighed)...I am waiting on a scope rail that we ordered this past week to show up so I can do a bit more with it.

Took the Accura out this afternoon, shot 10 times. The highest one in the pic was after I got a patch stuck and had to get it out. I know its only 50 yards, but its coming along and I like the way this thing shoots...pic is a little off cause I cropped it......

    Another target

I have shot the 350 a few times in the past week.

If only the right "nut" were behind the trigger....this thing will shoot!

Wow that is VERY interesting that they have 25 auto. That is a barrel blank that is almost unobtanium.

    John,
I have been looking at what my next project might be. I am looking at available molds with loverin style bases in smaller calibers, to see what might be another option for a slip fit type.................
