I will be there too. Leaving from the Olympic Peninsula 0-dark-thirty on Wednesday and will see how far I get. Seems to be a slight chance of snow showers every night through Sunday so I will be at my "plan C" camp up in Paradise Valley until Saturday morning.
I will try to get to the range to help set up early Saturday. Sounds like more fun than a guy should be allowed to have.

You're not going to be at the Rools Committee dinner Friday night?

Alright, folks. Here's the time-and-place info.

Rools Kommittee (that's ALL of us) will convene at Sid's Restaurant at 6:30 pm. Remember this place has a beer-only license, but comments to date certainly don't seem to reflect any pain on that subject. I did instruct them to lay in extra brewskis, "just in case". Sid's is located directly across Winnemucca Boulevard from Taco Bell and the Model 'T' casino and RV park.

The closing dinner on Sunday night has been held every year at Ormachea's Dinner House, a tradition that will be continued this year. Dinner will be at 7 p.m. Ormachea's is just one block west of Winnemucca Boulevard on Highway 95. Bring your appetite!

Of course, as already discussed, early-comers can meet up at The Griddle at 1 pm Friday for lunch. This is a small town, and The Griddle is also on Winnemucca Boulevard and easy to find a bit south of the Highway 95 traffic lights.

Saturday evening arrangements are pending and will be announced.

I'm a bit concerned about the weather forecast, but it will do whatever it's gonna do and there's not much more to say on the subject. We'll have a fine time, regardless.

Ammo loaded, reservations made, exacto knife blade removed from tire (glad I caught that one), new camera bought, schedule set, audio books downloaded and synched on i-Pod for the long drives. All that's left is to load the truck. I'll be there, and glad to get out of town for a while!! Sorry I can't make the Friday lunch, but I'm good to go for the rest of the weekend.

    See y'all there!

All the IMPORTANT stuff (guns, ammo, brass containers) is set to go now. The peripheral items (clothes, shaving gear, jackets) are about 5 minutes' work to assemble. I'm good to go, in other words. Buckshot will pick me up at about 9:00 A.M. manana, and barring the unforeseen we should slide into Winnemucca about 5 P.M. or thereabouts. I've been looking forward to this for quite a while now!

Unavoidable family responsibilities will keep LINDA and me from attending this years NCBS, at least for Friday and Saturday. There is a very slim possibility that one or both of us may be able to drive over for Sunday. Can't be sure of that though.

Thanks, Bill. I was looking forward to it also, and put off posting until pretty much the last minute when things became irreversible. I was hoping to break a few clay pigeons with the Ruger, and maybe some with the .303 Mauser. I will have a lot of cast loads to shoot in the coming weeks. If we do get to come over Saturday I'll just bring the Mauser and the Commander. Ernie

I made it! I wasn't sure I'd be able to weather the drive up from Vegas, but things went pretty well. Looking back, it's kind of a blur. I quit counting the number of 10+ mile long straight stretches I drove. At least there was snow on the mountains that bordered the highway. The views of them broke the monotony of the long drive. One of these days I'm going to have to make another trip, and next time I'll stop in a couple of places and take some photos. I think Austin was the town with all the cool mining era buildings and churches. I did take a few shots, both while driving and at a stop or two. There's one place along Nevada 376 where you can see the Sierra Nevada mountains in California. They're very tall and snow covered and visible from about 100 miles away. If I have time this weekend, I'll try to get some of what I shot posted here. Anyway, I was in hunker mode about the drive when I left 'Vegas, but it turned out to be a relatively easy drive. I'm sitting here in my hotel room waiting for the Rools Committee dinner. See you there!

    Day one down.

COLD, WINDY and by my count, we were snowed on for a couple of minutes on seven different occasions. Let's call it "an adventure".

Not whining, just reporting the facts.

Seriously, it was more fun than should be had by a bunch of folks shooting cast boolits while dancing around trying to keep warm. Needless to say, the dancing didn't help the group shooting competition. Try shooting from bench rest while dancing around trying to keep warm. It's no picnic.

In the evening, Bruce-B's wife and daughter put on a wonderful feast for us. Much socializing was accomplished while we wined and dined. Kudos to the Bruce-B family!

Photos of the Rools Committee dinner and the first day's shoot will be coming, as well as a video of a portion of the handgun team match competition. I'm going to wait until I get back home to deal with the photos, and I have to find a program to reduce the file size of the video.

Next report after the closing dinner tomorrow.

    Regards,

    Stew

Great report Stew. I sure did want to go. Even if things would have worked out, my wife and I have had the flu with a cough all week ....

Well, I forgot I promised to do a Day 2 report after this evening's dinner, and here I sit in the motel room at 11:30 pecking away through the effects of Ormachea's Restaurant's table wine and some rum and Coke I supplied for myself.

If you thought Day 1 was interesting, you should have seen Day 2. Upon the shooter's arrival at the range, the snow arrived, as well. As it began to accumulate, we adjourned to the range building where there was a propane heater. Good choice.

After 15-20 minutes, the snow stopped temporarily and we got back to business. Shooting commenced and we enjoyed similar conditions to Day 1. I don't think it was quite as cold (34 by the thermometer in my truck, which runs +/- 2 degrees or so) as it was Saturday, but the calm winds at 8:00 quickly gave way to breezes similar to Saturday. I took refuge behind one of the trash cans near the firing point to keep the wind from penetrating my pants legs. I should have brought some long johns. Though we have a great time here, if you decide to come in 2011, prepare to spend all day at temperatures between 90 and 32F.

The two big events of the day were the 400 yard open sight contest and the team rifle shoot. The 400 yard shoot was won by MT-GIANNI's son, whose name has, unfortunately slipped my mind (see paragraph 1). He hit 5 of 5 using NVCurmudgeon's rifle, "Jezebel", which has won more events for others than it has for Bill. Damned fine shooting for an open-sighted rifle shooting cast. It speaks well for the shooter and coach.

The Team Rifle Match was won by the "odds". All shooters were lined up and Bruce-B went down the line indicating each shooter as "odd" or "even" to divide the shooters into two groups for the shoot. It wasn't even close. As a member of the "odds", I have to humbly say, WE CLEANED THEIR CLOCKS! They left 5-7 clays standing when the dust (and snow) settled. Not bragging, just reporting.

After the team shoot and photos, we quickly cleaned up and evacuated the range, returning to our hotel rooms/campers/homes to warm up, nap and get ready for the evening's dinner at Ormachea's Restaurant. I learned from this trip that Northern Nevada and Southern Idaho are heavily populated by Basque's. These people come from the area of Spain bordering France. Many were shepherds. While Ormachea's sounds like a Mexican restaurant, it is far from that. It serves a Basque-style meal of excellent quality and GENEROUS portions.

Despite the weather, I think it can safely be said that all attendees had a very memorable and fun time. Arrangements are being made for a consolidation of all photos taken and these will be posted as they arrive and can be processed for posting.

    Regards,

    Stew
