Carrumba! Was lube-sizing some boolits for the up-coming Senior Olys, and ran out of 50/50. Started unscrewing the plunger, and the booger just spins down there, not retracting, just stymied. How does one go about getting the whole shooting match out of there?

Use an ice pick or similar device to reach in the reservoir and hold the plunger stationary while you turn the threaded rod clockwise. Stay away from the edges, or you'll damage the O-ring.

Didn't have an ice pick long enough, so hit an old screwdriver on the grinder, sharpened it to a point, and VOILA! Worked like a champ. Chucked up a 1/4" socket in the hand drill, and spun the plunger in and out a few times, packing the fresh 50/50 in. back in business.

Good idea to replace O rings occasionally. They get trashed after a few lube stix. Got mine at Ace Hardware for 40 cents each.

Just warming up the center bolt with a heat gun to soften any remaining lube on the threads sometimes helps too.

It must be time to get a new "O"ring in my lyman 450. Its 29 years old but still works.

Yes to checking the O ring while it is out.
I check my entire 450 out once a year
and lightly lube the linkage.

I cut a peice of pvc 1/2" pipe & slipped it over the stud to prevent this from happenin .
A strong magnet is better to hold the plunger with , less chance of damaging Orings .
