Cast in a .35 Rem Contender

Anyone shooting cast boolits in a 14" Contender? I have not tried cast in mine yet but was thinking about it. Looking for some recommendations.

    Well,

I've done it, but with no success. After trying off and on for years, I recently realized I've been using the wrong boolit. Can't use .357" boolits in a .358" bore and expect it to shoot well. I always had good success with the H&G 51BB in .38's or 357's, and good success with Hornady 146 gr. 357 jacketed SWC's. Those Hornady's would print a perfect clover leaf, yet the 158 gr. H&G 51BB SWC never shot well.

So, I'll size some a tad larger and see if that will work. Or maybe just get a rifle boolit mould and try it that way and forget the pistol boolits in the 35.

I won a lot of silhouette matches with an XP100 in .35 Rem. using Lyman 358315. Killed a lot of deer with .35 Rem. Remington 600, using Lyman 358156.

Yes, back when I had a 14" TC in .35 Remington I got some very good results with the 215 grains 358627 GC-SWC. The best load I found was 35.0 grains of 4895 for right at 1800 fps. For details see:

My Bullberry barrelled Contender responds to the RCBS 205 FN just as favorably as my Microgroove Marlins do.

Essentially, duplication of the velocity of 35 Remington factory loads fired from a rifle can be accomplished when shooting this bullet from the pistol length barrel.

Lyman 358627 and RCBS 35-200 are my go to bullets. I have used a Saeco 245 Gr FN, Lyman 358315 and the RCBS 35-180 also with pretty good success. I use the same loads in my 336 Marlins and Rem 14. Mark

If you want some samples, I'd be glad to share some 215 gr. Lyman 358627s and Ranch Dogs TL 190 gr. RFNGC design for testing purposes. They are my go to bullets in my .357 Maximum. They are sized to .359"
