You can miss fast & you can miss a lot, but only hits count.
Yeah !! .....the old 45 comes through again !!...., just ran about 500 - 402's ( 40 s+w ) out of the new mold from Mihec. That cramer style HP is the Bees Knees.... ,
The old lyman pop'ed em' out no problem...takes a little longer, but were good !

I have had my Lyman 45 since 1962 bought new. I now use it for my 22/6 cast bullets. If I get a 25 cast mold I use it too.
What I did was get a Lyman 450 for all the larger calibers. Both compliment eachother and dies and top punches can be swapped back and forth if needed.
You can use your Lyman 45 for all cast bullets.

I still have my lyman from the 1960? and went to a Vietnam vets yard sale.got a new 45 and a truline jr for $10.and the truline had the original box.now I have 5 trulines and two 45s.I think its time to trim the collection.

I bought one of the heaters from Midway that fit the later models. I drilled it for my #45 (in the end opposite the heating element of course). It made a world of difference.
Okay !!... ( brrrrrrrrrr !! ) winter has pushed it's point across here lately , been in the single digits last week but now we have a heat wave of about 30 + ?
With space heater in the man cave and the plate heater for the 45 , we keep on moving on .....
DO NOT TAKE YOUR WIFE'S/DAUGHTER'S HAIR DRIER! Get a real cheap Wally World drier, about $10.00 in big cities. Run it on high to heat up the lubersizer then low to maintain temperature. Much less family conflict if everyone has their own drier for their personal use.
Okay Duckiller.....how did you find out that's what I used the first time around !!! ( can't keep secrets any more these days ! )
OWWW !!! you should have seen the look on her face when she walked
in and saw what I was doing with her dryer..
I was lucky all the toys were locked in the gun safe at the moment !!!!
What was that they say.... trial by fire???
I picked up an old Lyman 45 last year, paid more for it ($50) but it came with a couple sizer dies and some extra sticks of black lube. Before too many bullets got sized, I broke the flange off the bottom of the threaded shaft!
I looked at it closely to see that someone had broken it before me and had done a poor job of welding it. It took some work but I fixed it right.
Hey there fatelk , just got back into town..... those boys in Southern CAlif. have had a terrible winter so far....about 70 some odd degrees all last week !!!.
Sounds like you did good with your 45 and the extra sizers and lube, today's prices and all .
Hope it last for years to come....digger

Opening up a sizing die is not difficult. Do a search for (I think Buckshot"s) great thread on it. Failing that, just ask.
Thanks for the response Dale , lately I have been reading Buckshot's threads here and there, they are full of tidbit's that I will try.
Gives me something else to try out in the shed out back since all the snow has slowed things down a bit here.
All the information here in the forums is fantastic...and I appreciate it very much.
Hope things are a bit better there in Texas.......digger

I started with the Lyman 45 in 1959 and used it for the next 30 years. I then went to the 450 and have three of them. The 450 is just plain stronger and smoother to operate than the old 45. I gave my 45 to some newbi caster in Canada a few years back to get him started. They are good old machines, that will get the job done, but there is nothing magic about them. Nostalga won't compensate for strength.
If I didn't have dozens of sizing dies for these machines, I would jump to a Star in a heartbeat. At this stage, it is just too expensive for the years I have left. But, if I were starting in and not to deep into Lyman or RCBS stuff, I would go Star and not look back.
LOL, better go check my 45, your set up looks more than a little familiar.
