Felix lube in pan?

Can the Felix lube be used to pan lube? I do not have a lube sizer.

If you go to Cast Pics and read the Felix lube reference page, it says you can add a little parrafin to make a harder lube for pan lubing. It added that if bees wax was scarce, so I suppose just adding a little more beeswax would accomplish the same thing. That is what I will be doing, as I am working on making some to try pan lubing with now. Billy

I am using it as a pan lube, just had to make a cookie cutter for my boolits. I have found that if you cut the boolits out just after the lube solidifys, it is easier.

More beeswax doesn't necessarily accomplish the same thing. It makes is more like plain beeswax which is to say firmer. Paraffin makes the lube more brittle and less sticky, qualities that aid in cutting or shearing it when cool, but tend to detract from it's good qualities if used to excess.

Emmert's pan lubes just fine without any changes to the recipe. Use an aluminum or plastic pan. Stand the bullets in the pan and melt the lube in a double boiler. Pour it into the pan till it covers the lube grooves. Let the lube cool till it pulls away from the side of the pan then turn it over onto a folded towel and dump the lube cake out. Turn it back over onto the towel and push on each bullet nose to break it loose in the lube cake. Pick the lube cake up and push the bullets completely out. I find this a lot less messy than a cake cutter.

If you try to remove the bullets before the lube has pulled away from the pan or if the lube cake has cooled too much you won't have much success as the cake will crack or the lube won't stay in the groove. I also don't have much luck using stainless steel pans as my lube tends to stick to the pan. If you must change the recipe try replacing half or all of the oil with anhydrous lanolin.

I use Felix Lube in pan. I used pure carnauba wax to "Stiffen" it up a bit. It only takes a couple of tea spoons.
