Use for used primers?

When I was taught how to reload it was stressed to me "Dont throw anything away EVER! Everything can be reused for somthing" So now I have five 1# powder cans full of used primers and I still haven't figured out a use for them, except my lil boy loves to use them for rattles. Does anyone know of a practical use for old used primers?

I have several jars full. Eventually I'll probably scrap them.

I used up a bunch of them when I had a (cheap) muzzle loading 12 ga shotgun.

I just save them in a jar. When I go to the scrap recycler, they go along with the rest. They are brass...Ray

I commercially manufacture drift boat anchors and reload and use the clips and primers to fill mud holes in my driveway and have run a little over a hundred thousand pounds of wheel weights during the owning of 2 different homes and they work great, bind with dirt and hold grass roots
really good and wont blow away...........

Just in case you run out - I actually read a post somewhere about reusing them - knocking out the firing pin dent and using strike anywhere matches for primer mixture.

Mine go in the Luzianne coffee can (yes, can - it's that old) with all the other scrap brass and then into the bigger can and thence to the scrap yard. Brass all, and though price is down now, it will go back up. I'll be waiting...

All of them go in with the berdan, corroded, crushed/split cases, old keys, plumbing parts, and all the other brass scrap to the foundry. I have about 220# sitting waiting for the price to go back up. Then I'll trade for tin.

Flutterby gave me an idea.
My spent primers are nickle and gold/brass colors.
Lay them out and spray paint them different colors.
Glue them to a backing for dot art.
Something like cross stitch.

As if I have that kind of time on my hands.

took a 5gal bucket of old brass & spent rifle and pistol primers that i was saving for years , got 90 cents a pound and there was 92 lb in the bucket . i now have almost another full 2 1/2 gal bucket but ill sit on it for awhile to see if prices hit $1.65 again. bob

Whatever you do with them, one thing to keep in mind is that primer residue contains a lot of lead oxide.

FWIW, I keep mine for reloading. I don't use match heads. Even @ $24 a 1000, primers aren't cheap.

Yep. The gentleman that taught me how to cast and reload many years ago showed me how to have super-cheap fun loading shot charges in a 6" rifled single-shot percussion pistol using pyrodex, cardboard wads cut with a sharpened 45/70 case, and "Sweepin's" off the reloading room floor which were 75% spent primers and a mix of stray lead shot of all sizes, lead flakes from casting, small rocks, etc. Really great fun on rotten fruit and soda cans at 10 feet!

I have a brass spitoon 3/4 full of spent primers. I just keep puttin' 'em in there.
