Picked up a Lyman 358425 mould today...

at a reasonable price. Now I have to figure out what it is used for. It looks like it is too light for a .38 Special and two of them together are a little bit on the heavy side. Any suggestions?

From this it looks to be a light wadcutter for 38/357

My old Lyman book lists it as a wadcutter for indoor shooting in the 38 SP.

I have cast and shot thousands of them. They are a 50 ft bullseye boolit, and work very well for that.

Try sizing for your 38 and load it over 2-2.5 gr of Bullseye. Think of it as the big bore 22LR.

Before Ga stopped all center fire for squirrel hunting, many of them fell to that load shot out of my Rossi 357 mag. It's a slow load and a miss rattles thru the tree branches as it's slowing down.

I found that they shoot better if cast a bit harder. Mine are case from WW with a small bit of tin.

I just picked up a 1 cav of this boolit. It casts beautifully depsite slow production. Mine are dropping at 115 gr from 50/50 COWW/pure and the driving bands are .360. The front of the boolit is a smaller diameter than the driving bands. How deep should I seat these into the case? It seems like they have a crimp groove, but it might just be a second lube groove. I suppose it doesn't really matter, being such a small boolit over such a light charge... I'm open to suggestion. Thanks in advance.

I just found a single cavity Ideal 358425. Old one without vent lines. Just cast a bunch today. Weigh about 113. Going to shoot these in S&W 60-4 with a 3" barrel. Might be a good jackrabbit combo.

That would be a fun one as well out of 38 Colt Short or Long - seat to the top groove and reduced powder charge. Would be fun out of a J frame.

WOW! Put 50 rds through my S&W 60-4. 2.3 grains Bullseye. Light recoil and accurate. Now I have to find a double cavity mold.

Looks like Lyman used the same mould number and made it in two different weights,
a 112 grain and a 121 grain version. Harry O. which weight did you get ?
Looks like it would be interesting in a 38 special.
