Overt your eyes. Basket case restore

    Delta 6" Belt 12"DiskSander #31-730 for $100

    Model 31-730 on a 52-611 stand. Looks like she's a 1991 vintage.
The motor does work real well and the disk bearings are in good shape. This one will also be repainted after the dent in the cabinet has been beat out.

She's going to need some work and parts.

The top cover has been sanded through and will need to have some body work done.

The belt tightening knob is missing.

    The side cover is missing.

The bearings on the top roller need to be replace after I checked it so I took it apart on location with help from my buddy. The rod the roller rides on needs to be replace also ($30.00). It's adding up.

Sander is now stripped down and ready for painting.
I sanded every part down to bare metal.

I love seeing this........the older tools were heavy and well made. You'll have a good "work partner" for many years now!

    Nice job.

Thanks 06, yes I ended up using it more than I thought I would.
For 30 some years I have done 17th and 18th century wood working as a hobby, and now I'm just to tired to push a handplane. lol
The sander is like an electric chisel.

Duke, Nice work. Your sander looks very similar to my Atlas that I acquired over 25 yrs. ago. Last year I picked up a WELLS No. 8 metal cutting band saw for FREE. Just haul it away! This saw is almost as old as I am and they still make parts for it. After $100.00 in parts and restoring like you did I now have a saw worth over $1500.00

...............Looks very snazzy. I especially like the 'Made in U.S.A." on the builders plate. Don't see that much anymore, and even though it's on a 25-30 year old machine I still like to see it!

With all these machines you are renovating, I hope your leave some time for shootin'.

The older machines were actually designed to be repaired and are still value for money spent, not like the modern throw aways.

    Good work, keep it up.

I am contemplating buying a serious welder and plasma cutter. I will need a sander like this to compliment it. Look for one for me and we will trade some work. Could be some lead in it for you too.
