    A really good friend

You never know that what you do for people, to help them out, how it comes back sometimes!! Last Sunday, while at a friends house, whom I helped out in the past with diesel repair work, we were admiring some new weaponry he had purchased. Conversation goes like this......... "Hey, you still messing around with cast boolits?? .................., well, yeah. " Why you asking,I say, he says, " I got something for you."
Tells his son, "go load that block of lead in his truck. " I'm tired of mowing around it."
Long story short,a bunch of wheel weights poured into an oblong block to make a race car ballast!!! 152 lbs worth! You just never know!!
I firmly believe that you should only get treated by how you act, not by who or what you are!!

do a zinc acid test, race car ballast is notorious for having the zincs melted right in with the lead. Good score!

You did well. Grateful thanks and take it home. Even if it is tainted, it will be usable with a little effort. Testing for zinc is pretty much a normal thing for anything other than commercial alloy ingots these days, so the reminder is good.

Ain't that sweet! Zinc or no zinc, it's still a good deal.

Just one little detail I'd like to ask about..."How are you going to cut it up for the smelting pot?"

Thats a nice score! Hopefully it is old enough to be zinc free.

sawzall + wd40 cutting fluid . Worked like a champ for the 400lb ballast I cut up for another buddy with a race car.

If it has zinc find out how much and just blend it with other wheel weights until it is below 1% and cast it! At that percentage it makes a tougher bullet and barely affects weight.

Thanks for the replies, guys!! I will test it for zinc, you bet! As for melting it into more manageable pieces, I think I'm going to put it in a piece of 6 inch channel iron on a tilt, hit it with the weed burner,(gently),and let it melt into my cast iron Dutch oven. Have another acquaintance with an XRF gun so we good to go! ( I'm not exploiting my friends with the xrf gun, I'm advancing my position through friendship!!) Lol. Once again, thanks for the comments! Be safe out there.
