    I Love living in GA!

I love the fact that I was able to move to Georgia.

After living in NY for the last 4 years and their restrictive handgun laws, it is like Nirvana coming down to GA.

I stopped into my local gunshop and was able to look at 8 large displays of new and used pistols. I think I scared the owner when I started drooling on the glass...

45 minutes later I picked out a Taurus 99AF model to come home with me. Its a copy of the Beretta 92 with an adjustable rear sight. Its solid black with rubber grip panels. It had a twin that was two-toned but I'm not into flashy pistols.

Now I have to pick up some 9mm Luger dies and pair them up with the 115gr Lyman mold that I use with my 9mm Largo carbine.

And now I need to find time to take her shooting once my dies and come in!

I don't know how many of you were buying guns before 1968, but there was a gun dealer where I use to live who had a unique way that he "tricked" me in to buying a gun.

If I spent too much time looking over a gun he would say "hey, just take it home and try it out for a week or so." Now, he would not do this with everyone only us suckers. who would show up a week or so later with the money.

You did not want to screw ol' Darrell or try to beat him out of anything. He sold gun part time after his regular job as a deputy sheriff.

I bought my first gun from Darrell when I was 15 yrs old, but I had to have a note from my mom and not my dad. His thinking was that your mom was less likely to consent than dad would be.

I miss the good old days!

Pimp Daddy Brucie with the 2-tone 9mm Taurus. Man, you missed your calling! Welcome to a part of America that still values individual rights. I grew up in NY, and did not return there to live. I knew there was things going on that I didn't like, and I made my way, thankfully, elsewhere. I still do not understand how we Americans can be SO DIFFERENT. btw, my last residence in NY was '68. I grew up on Long Island and miss the ocean and LI Sound and upstate for all the things it it WAS.

Yep, I've got a Destroyer Carbine I picked up a few years back. I had to fabricate a new extractor for it but its a great rabbit roller with either 130FMJ or 115gr Cast Lead.

Glad you made it to GA!

    Hi Bruce!

I'm glad that you escaped the insanity of the NorthEast. Been there, done that!
Maine is beautiful, but the people have simply gone politically nuts.
I'm forced to go back once in a while because of the parents and the kids, but can only take it for so long.
The mountains of NC are my favorite place, but the local county here in WA state is thankfully populated with people that have Appalacian attitudes and common sense.
You couldn't pay me to live back East, or down in California.

    Bruce,

Congrats on the move and I'm glad you're a law-abiding citizen of Kennesaw. By the way, when you move into that town, how much time do they give you to comply with their law requiring each household to own a gun?

I was born in PA, grew up in Indiana, and the Navy moved me around, first to Virginia, then Commiefornia. When we escaped from there as political refugees (25 years ago next Wednesday!!) and came to Arizona, we would get occasional visits from my parents, who had moved from Indiana back to PA in the late 60s. We would take them to the Smitty's stores (now owned by Kroger/Fry's) which were, at the time, very much like a modern version of a western General Store. They carried everything. Food, clothes, auto supplies, a lot of etcetras and GUNS! When entering the store there was a big sign requesting that all guns be checked at the store manager's office upon entering. That really freaked out my parents. They kept asking us, "When are you going to come back to America?" I never could convince them that this IS America, and a better example of it than PA. I was born to live here. It just took me 34 years to figure it out. I'm glad, Bruce, that you've found your vision of freedom.

    Regards,

    Stew

I also grew up in New York (western N.Y. that is), graduated from High School in the late 50's, enlisted in the Marine Corps, then in the Air Force, traveled the world and never looked back. It was a different western New York then from now.
Used to wander the fields with a 22 for woodchucks, and in the fall in the woods for squirrl and rabbit. Everybody I knew who was worth knowing hunted, and or fished etc. It is different now. Hunting Lisc tags on your back so the game warden can spot you from a distance with binocs. Not uncommon in the east. Hunting is down in numbers of hunters now due to the hassels. The politicians are almost all anti gun, tree hugging, PETA supporting yo-yo's etc. I feel sorry for the few hunters that I still know back there who are restricted by all of the garbage associated with gun ownership and hunting. I married a Georgian, and am back in Ga. a couple of times a year. Love the state, love the people, just can't take the heat. Like a lot of others who value their rights and freedoms, you could not bribe me with enough to ever make me more back to the north east.
On top of all of the rest associated with gun ownership, is the fact that the North East is taxed to death. However with Obama in office, looks like we will all be taxed to death to pay for the deadbeats and the illeagles. Now ya learn to love grits (Ga. Snow), and blow gnats, and learn that yall is one word and you ought to fit right in! Good Luck!

I'm currently living in CNY. Nice country, and there's some good folks here, but this placed is wacked politically. Looks like I may become a "damned yankee" in the near future as the folks who "bought" my house in SC have bailed out.

We need to have a GA meetup with all the GA folks here! Welcome to the Peach State! I left NJ 2 weeks after I graduated High School to live down here with my dad. Never had a desire to go back up north. I would rather have AIDS. P.S. are you at Fort Gillam?

Dang, I’m glad that I live in the south. All I’ve ever had to do was walk in a gun store and out 15 minutes later with my new toy. Or a face to face buy of anything that I wanted to but minus black guns on a restricted list. I even had an FFL once but let it drop when the price of the license went through the roof.

I love it here and will never go back to ca. for anything. I am down here at Ft. Stewart.

I have a range right here on my back 40, behind the pond and the corrals.I could never even dream of that in ca. ,because of the price and 10 billion beuracrats that would stand in my way of what I want and what they think I should do with my property. Not to mention the lead......the evil lead...

Ga. is awesome. I live in a place so small the only laws are the 10 commandments and dont rape nobody!! Welcome to the south!!

Isn't it great to live in a state where citizens are allowed to be "FREE".

Lived on long island for about the first 50 years. Moved to louisiana and don't regret it. none of the bs about getting a purchase permit then going to show it to make sure that is what will go on your license. Walk in pay the man, telephone call and out the door. course my brother still is up there. I feel sorry for those that live in new york. Dinkens took all the fun when he banned the semi's and it was downhill after that. Frank

With the exception of 4 years in the Navy, I've been right here in south GA all of my 59 years. In the sticks, no visible neighbors, jes me, the wife, dogs, chickens, and gnats. Loving it.
