    Home made sizing dies

Has anyone tried making their own and had success? Doesn't seem like it would be hard.

I do it all the time. Post #97 on this thread shows the drawing I use.

Buckshot makes them as well for the standard reloading press (like the Lee sizer dies), for sale to forum members. I haven't bought any from him. But from those that have and relayed their experiences with them, they're right on the money when it comes to finished size. Down to the .0001

Buckshot is the man. I can't speak of Jim's work, though if he is making them for sale their probably really darn good. Most things made by the peeps on this forum is well worth the money they ask for it.

I did it once - made a 0.590" push-through sizer for a Snider. Took 1 1/4" - 12 threaded rod and drilled a 15mm (0.590") hole through it. Piece of cake. Since then though, I've had Buckshot make a bunch up for me. Nothing I needed had a drill size available that fit, and he does good work.

............Making the die body from barstock, turning, drilling, reaming, threading (if required) and boring is all machinist 101 stuff and is not hard. The hard part that will make or break the die is honing it to final size. THAT is the issue If you can handle a thou here and there in the bore, then it also becomes no big deal.
