    Increased WC820 loads in 30-30

Junior's 14.4 grains of WC820 in 30-30 worked well for my 150 grain boolits. I want to push the envelope a bit more. I'm getting 1640 fps at that load. Has anybody explored the upper limits of this powder/cartridge combo?

I've tried 16 - 17 grains of WC820 with a 185 grain bullet in a 10" Contender. I'm not sure it was a good idea - I interpolated some data a little loosely, in retrospect - I should have started lower and worked up. It was Buckshot's load from Castpics for a 173 grain bullet. Speaking of loose, after about 25 shots, my wrist felt kind of numb. It was a real eye-opening load. No pressure signs though, and the heaviest loads were the most accurate. I'm planning on dialing it down for the next attempt. In a rifle, it should be fine I would think. Then again, it might not, I don't really know for sure. Stan

I think you've covered all the bases, Stan.

    I appreciate the input.

Although I did try this one myself and nothing bad happened, I figure I don't have any business giving advice on loads that are meant to be used in a different action than mine. I have very little experience with the 30-30 and wouldn't want anyone to mistake me for someone who actually knows what he's doing! Stan
