    Lyman 311467 HP

I've had a Lyman 311467 for several years. It is a double cav. mold and has provided me with some of the most accurate .30 cal. cast bullets that I've ever shot.

Recently I removed the g/c shank in the rear cav. of the mold and decided later that I'd send the mold to Erik in OR :

    http://www.hollowpointmold.com/

I requested that Erik take the front cavity that still had the factory g/c shank in it and HP that cavity.

I asked that he make a " deep HP pin ", a pin that would allow me to cast a solid bullet, and a pin to allow me to cast a cup point. Considering that the same mold also cast a round nose , plain base 311467, it has now turned into a very versatile mold.

BTW, Erik's work on this particular mold is exceptional !

    Here are some photos:

Here is a photo of the flat point pin in position in the mold :

Here are flat points that have been cast with ACWW's :

Here is the deep HP pin in position , the HP pin extends .450 " deep into the mold cavity :

Here are deep HP bullets cast from ACWW's :

This photo shows the " Cup Point " HP pin in position :

    Here are " Cup Point HP Bullets cast from ACWW's ;

A close up of the " Cup Point " :

I like to shoot my .30 cal. cast bullets sized to .310 ".
I pushed these " nose 1st " through my Lee sizer die that I've honed out to .310".

Have you made any expansion tests with these boolits thru water jugs or wet news-print? Good looking boolits. Erick does do great work.

    No I have not.

The mold arrived about 4 hours ago and I immediately cast a few bullets with the mold and made these photos.

I've had no time to test them.

Ben, Like the modifications done to your mold. Especially the flat point. The unaltered
cavity reminds me of a schutzen bullet I saw a bunch of years ago. Has a nice solid base to seal off powder gas. Frank

Great photos, excellent boolit quality, too. Those HPs are gorgeous, well - actually, they
    all are really nice castings.
Erik sure does nice work. I am sending him two molds tomorrow.

I'll try to shoot some of the bullets and post some photos of the groups soon.

Hullo Ben, you are a busy man , looks like a very good idea , as you say , you should have a boolit there for most "Occasions" , very interesting , let us know how they shoot. Those HP's should put the "Smack Down" on anything on the receiving end.

    Nice castings

    ditto.

I've already copied a modified version of his 358477 HP design (made mine on a 358156 with one small change), and now he posts this thread of my favorite 30-cal boolit!

The flat-point version looks absolutely awesome! I love that ever-so-slight radius from the ogive to the meplat!

And the deep HP looks awesome. Weights come out in a very nice and usuable range, too!

Dang-it all! Now I've got another "Ben project"!!!

I, too, would like to see photos of groups, but more importantly, I'd like to see pics of expanded boolits with data like: velocity, alloy, penetration depth, and description of the media tested in...

Oh, don't take Bret's "complaints" too seriously! He's not getting "dragged" down and neither am I...

Part of the problem is probably the quality of your photography. GLL is another guy who makes the danged prettiest pictures of cast boolits that we just drool over. - I've ordered a mould because of him, and did a group buy because of his pics... There's several others here, whose photos are about the same high level that just makes us want to go out and duplicate things for ourselves.

There's another fellow here who has taken a slightly different tack on HPs, and he's gonna make me spend my next stash of mould money, so it's not all your fault, Ben!

    I have an old ( 5 - 6 yrs old ) Minolta , Dimage, Z -10.

The camera is no longer made. This one is a good one. I've taken a " bazillion " pics with it.

    Thanks,
    Ben
