    Question Soft gas checks

Does anyone here use soft gas checks? They aren't too practical here because of the climate but I was thinking I could use them at least 8 months out of the year. Some people sware by them!

SoftChek is a brand name for wax sheets to be pressed over the case mouth before seating a cast bullet. They do give a marginal improvement , ime. They will also kill your loads deader than Lincoln if exposed to any degree of heat. I still have the remains of a box I bought 20 years ago.

I was talking about the wax ones but I did not know there was a fiber on! I really can't shoot the wax ones here because I live in the desert!

About 25 years ago I did a test for lube migrating.I was testing LBT lube than. I took
4 test tubes put some powder,Kaypok, and a lube wad and cork, also took 4 30-30 and spent primer, powder, and lube bullet. Put them in the tool box in the back of my truck
for the summer. The lube did not migrate.I am going to do the same thing this summer with Felix lube. The ambient temperature should be about the same at your area as mine.

In years past I have used a lot of soft checks made from Beeswax and paraffin with a shot of Liquid alox.

Today if I had to use a wad or soft check it would be either cut from LDPE or HDPE, in my experience it will do anything the wax will with smokeless powder and is a lot easier to handle.

    Good luck

    Wax gaschecks

I used them 15-20 yrs ago when I had excessive leading in 9mm lugar ammo shot in an ancient P-38. They worked well, but were a pain to handle. I found that going to a cooler powder (-->Herco from Bullseye) worked just as well.
