    Another 310 tool question

I have a 310 set in 222, and I have seen the reference sheet on Castpics, but I cannot find an answer to my question. Namely, can my 222 set also do 222 mag? I see some that list the 243 and 244 on the same dies, so I thought it might work. I cannot find a reference for the 222 mag in a 310 tool though, so I am unsure. Would just like to know for future reference. Thanks, Billy

I use my 221 fireball 310 dies for the 222, so I would expect 222 to do 223 and 222 mag -- The dies only neck size and you just adjust them for the proper length -- Generally a longer case can be sized in shorter case dies if the case has similiar dimensions --- 38 long colt, 38spl, and 357 can be neck sized in 38 short colt dies -- Or is it 38 new police? which ever is the same diameter - always get them mixed up and have to check the book 30/06 can sometimes be sized in 308 if the die is large enough at the bottle neck area - Anyroad I am sure you get the idea -- my ha-penny

Somewhere in the vast amount of reading I did once upon a time to get set up with my 310 loading equipment, I chanced upon the statement from Lyman that I could use my .222 set to do .221 FB, and elsewhere the same was said about .222 and .223. Of those two points I am as sure as my Froggie memory will let me be. I seem to also recall that it was indicated that the same dies could be also used with the .222 mag if the large handles were used. (I can't recall whether any but the .221 could be done with small handles. )

Pavogrande is correct that neck sizing only opens up a wide range of possibilities. In fact, I am loading a set of cases for a Model 1873 Maynard .40-40 (with the large diameter, thick rim) with a currently produced set of .40-65 dies... how unlikely is THAT? When in doubt, try a couple. It will probably work.

I hace a 1999 Lyman catalog that shows 310 tools in it. They make the statement that 222 222 mag and 223 are all loaded with the same dies set! I guess you just make the correct "height" adjustment when you screw it in thew tong tool.

Did the same thing with 06 dies when I wanted to reload 308, just screwed them in instead of out!

I recently acquired a 310 tool in .300 Savage. It was such a good deal I couldn't not buy it. Sitting at the kitchen table I successfully loaded some rounds in .30-30, .308 Winchester and .30-40 Krag. Setup fuss was minimal.

I would wager a dollar against the hole in a doughnut that you could easily load any of the .22 cal cartridges sharing the .222 case head size.
