lyman 410459/.41magnum

having recently fallen in love, again, this time with the .41magnum i had to comment on the above mould. I just got through throwing a bunch of 185grainers from an old lyman mould i borrowed for .41magnum, and used a lee 210grain mould for a wadcutter specifically designed for their lee liquid alox. But I wanted a keith style bullet like the .429421 for the .44magnum and .44special. Then I realized lyman doesn't make the .410459 anymore. Going to ebay i just saw an auction end for one for a two holer that went for 127bucks. Ouch. Interesting enough midway has also been out of the .411lyman sizer for some time.
Interesting enough, rcbs makes a mould for what i think is the same bullet, their mould number is #82039, with the top punch and sizer too.. Ordered yesterday.
Cannot figure out why the lyman mould is in such demand.
Long live the .41magnum. I have now shot it in an old three screw ruger blackhawk, s&w model 57, and a really good pistol the ruger redhawk in a 5 1/2inch barrel. They are dead nuts accurate, and don't give up much if anything to the .44magnum, and I think they fly better

I have both the Lyman 410459 and the RCBS mould; the RCBS will outshoot the Lyman every time. I can also load it right up there with a variety of powders and not have to worry about leading.

I bought a Lyman 410459 single cavity on eBay about a month ago, I wanted one, $73.oo. Two days later I saw a two-holer for "But-It-Now", $59.oo, I couldn't punch the keys fast enough... Some luck buyer hit the enter key 1 second before me!

I love the 410459. By the way, you can always go custom and prices are not all that unreasonable if you think about it. Mountain Molds is a good place to start.

The RCBS is a good looking SWC, but not quite a Keith inspired design. All three driving bands should be about the same size in a Keith style bullet, the top band on the RCBS is clearly thinner. Probably this was done so it would chamber in a cylinder with tight throats, one of the changes that Lyman also did to Keith's bullet designs for the 38 & 44 Specials and the 45 Colt & 45 AR that caused Keith to stop designing bullets for Lyman. The 410459 is Lyman's interpretation of a Keith SWC, Keith was refusing to work with Lyman by the time the 41 Magnum came out.

The Keith SWC for the .41 Magnum is the H&G #258. Lyman drew up the 410459 and called it a "Keith bullet" and Elmer got steamed because he had nothing to do with its design and there were several things abou it that he didn't like (small meplat, uneven driving bands, rounded grease groove, etc.). That being said, the 410459 is an accurate bullet that shoots flat.

I have a single cav and a double cav 410459-- as to accuracy in my 3 .41 it would be hard to beat them --but they are not worth what yhey go for on Ebay to me--I would go NEI or Mountain Mold -- now where could i find a picture of said H&G 258?

This looks VERY much like the Lee GB from some time back. My photo of the drawing is titled "41-225" but in my mould listing I have it as "41-220".
