    Lucky Find

Stopped at a yard sale this morning and found:

A new in the box MEC700 Versamec 12 gauge shotshell reloader (pre 1982)
25 lbs of "All American" brand hard lead shot (7 1/2)
1 lb of Unique powder (in a paper cylinder can)

    Total price: $20.00 USA

I think I just got into reloading shotgun shells.

That's a great deal! that's the old Hercules unique in the rolled cardboard can. It's a bit dirtier than the newer stuff, but loads and performs exactly the same.

Nice, you bought a pound of powder and they threw in 25 lbs of shot and a MEC loader for free!!!! (Now why doesn't this ever happen to me???!?!?!?)

    Approximate value:

    1) 25 lb. shot = $45

    1) 1 lb. powder = $20

    1) shotshell loader ( new in box) = $125 (?)

    Approximate total value = $190 (+/-)

    Actual outlay $20

    Good stop for sale!!Robert

    Hi,
Good deal! When I stop at yard sales it's always useless women stuff! Ha! The bag of lead shot put you over the top as stated!

Being a home shop kind of guy I stop in scrape metal dealers quite frequently. One time years ago I noticed two 55 gal. drums full of bagged Lawrance Brand Chilled 71/2 size shot! The man wanted $6.00 a bag! He got it from a shut down mattress manufacturer, they used it for testing! I got all I could afford at the time so I'm good now for shot! The MEC reloader makes an excellent shell!

Seagiant, you got really lucky! All of the scrap yards and metals recyclers in this area refuse to sell anything. I have been searching for sources for lead, tin, pewter, and other occasional requests only to discover that none of these recyclers will let anything loose. They will buy most anything, and sell nothing. For now my sources for WWs are local tire and/or mechanic shops, will play that out until they are empty.

    Hi TM,
Yes you are right, the good old days on scrape are gone I guess. The place I got the shot from is gone and as you said now a days the regular dealers won't sale anything to individuals. I have a tire front-end alignment shop that save me their WW's and I drop a case of Heiniken off every now and then!
