    WW and tin,,,again...

Any problem to using flux cored wire solder (60-40) when adding to WW to increase the tin content?

Will the flux core (or rosin core or acid core) give any impurities to the mixture or will it be burned off or removed by fluxing?

I was thinking the flux core may actually act as flux in its self...

Nah, just toss it in. The flux helps clean the melt.
I have done it before, just make sure it melts into the melt, not submerges intact.

definatly do the acid core outside.
i have done it in an old lyman 10 lb pot that i could plug in and walk away from.
the rosin core stuff i did the same way.

I've done 500+ lbs of acid/rosin core 50/50 and other... here are a few tricks.
    - peal as much metal off the rolls as possible(if your melting large rolls of solder)
    - Start with a small amount and keep some molten in the pot
    - Gather yourself some DRY sawdust, leaves, or something similar to soak up the floating acid.
    - When this stuff starts to melt the black/brown acid will float on top and look like a nasty goo, thats when you sprinkle the dry leaves or saw dust on top
    - Stire just enough to help soak up the floating Goo/acid and have a good disposible container for this ready

It's a great source for Tin if you clean it up a little...I wouldn't use acid core solder in my final casting pot unless you have some sawdust ready to soak some of the Goo off the top. Also do it outside.

I see Grainger has the cored tin/lead rolls on clearance. I am thinking of holding off for now after looking at cost issues and other suppliers of tin...also the feedback on my other recent thread of may not needing tin to my WW at all.

    Thanks for the input!!
