.308 Sub Sonic Encore

I've been trying to get a 200 gr. RCBS silhouette boolit to stabilize in my .308 Encore, but it seems to be stretching the limits for the 1:10 twist. Any suggestions on .30 moulds that will keep the bullet weight up near 200 grains and will stabilize at 1,050 fps?

I forgot to mention that I'm loading 9 grains of Trail Boss over a Winchester magnum LRP.

This is just a hunch, but , before I gave up on the boolet, I'd try a different powder/primer combination - or two.

I think you're going to be forced to go a lot lighter/shorter to stabilize in a 1:10 @ 1050 fps. Even a double ended wadcutter design is going to be a pencil in the .308 bore.

You might want to have a look at some of the 300 Whisper load data. I'm guessing that you'll have to come down to a round nose 150/165 grain or perhaps a little lighter in a 1:10 barrel. YMMV

What range are you shooting? In my 300 Whisper some bullets won't stabilize very well at 100 yards, but shoot well at 200 yards. Must take them awhile to settle down. This is with a 1 in 8 twist.

Have had very good sucess with the Lyman #311284 GC a 220 grain mold which drops at 225 grains in my WC WWts. Had almost as good results with the simple /cheap Lee 200 grain GC.

Yes....... I use gas checks with all of my various caliber molds and for the few plain base molds I have in .429 and .458 I put a "reversed" gas check under the base regardless of velocities/speeds.



Forgot to mention....the posted Tboss loads above, like all my cast loads are Teflon Taped for lube.

I have worked up a good 308 Win. subsonic load for my Rem. 700 with 1:10 twist, 22" bbl.

Using 7.5gr of Hodgdon Titegroup with 311284. Alloy is about 4 parts W-W to 1 part linotype. Win. large rifle primer. Velocity is around 1050. This has grouped less than 1" at 100m fired prone off bipod.

Here is a load that I shoot out of my Springfield 1903, 308 Win.





The barrel in this one is a 4 groove Remington , GI barrel and is in pristine condition.

This group was fired at 50 yards , 5 shots, 7.0 grains of Bullseye with a Fed 210 Primer.

This group isn't a " fluke ", as this rifle will shoot like this at 50 yards all day long.

The bullet is the Lee , 200 grain, with the gas check shank removed. The bullet is sized .310

Some real FUN SHOOTING and cheap shooting also considering the escalating cost of .30 cal gas checks.

Ben's load is the same as i use with 311299 in my M1903s for a subsonic load. Bullseye is always my choice of powder for loads below 100 fps in rifle cartridges.
