Are gas checks required if you're using a felt wad and grease cookie?

I recently started to reload for a new pedersoli sharps rifle. An old aquaintence told me that I wont get any accuracy if I dont use a gas check. I've been reading "Buffalo Rifles of the old west" and they don't mention the use of gas checks at all. I'm paper patching a .446 dia mony boolet from a mold purchased from Buffalo arms. I use a 1/8"felt wad behind the patched boolet over a grease cookie and a wad cut from a cardboard milk carton over 70 gns of 2F Goex. So what do I need to do? Gas check or not?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks in advance,

No gaschecks used in that setup.

As Nobade state; No gas check required. The paper patch and two wads are plenty enough to protect the base of the boolit.

Back in the days of the old west, when buffalo hunters were using Sharps rifles, gas checks hadn't been invented yet. IIRC the first bullet that was designed to use a crimped on gas check was the Lyman #311284, which was made for the 30-40 Krag. Your grease cookie, card wad, and felt wad are what you need for your patched bullets. If you were shooting regular cast bullets without any wads gas checks would be beneficial.
