457191 bases

Before I waste primers and powder, tell me if the bases on these 457191 castings will cause inaccuracy. Thanks

In my experience, dents and scratches on the OD of the base are more likely to cause problems than the sprue cut-off.

Without a caliper in hand and the fuzzy photo the sprues appear to be off center on two of the bullet bases. I added a washer with a screw anchor to one of my 45-70 molds to center up the sprue cutoff plate. Yes, it helped and it shrunk the groups. If you cannot center the cutoff plate then you should mark the bullets to place the bullets in the same orientation in the chamber every time to compensate for the anomaly.

Edit: Check your technique to insure that the sprue plate is fully seated every cast. I have a mold that fills the bases only if the sprue plate is somewhat loose. Even when removing the mold from the pour spout I can knock it off center and screw up the sprue centering.

That mold has a little bit of a bevel to the base anyway.

If you have any problems at all, it'll probably only be with a group opening up a little at longer ranges.

I'd shoot them.

If they perform to your expectations, great. If not, try again with perfect bases.

Ive cast those .457s before also. I wouldn’t be concerned. As long as the rest of the bullet is filled out you should be good.

There is nothing wrong with those bullets, load em up and shoot em. Those bases will never make a difference in accuracy.

The 457 191 molds I have are regular base and not beveled. One each single cavity and one 4-cavity. I think I have seen a beveled version. I don't know how the two 457 191's are marked.

Tho the in post one, the image is out of focus a little, I think these bullets are regular base.

Yes, shooting them. Or provide pictures from more angles to show the imperfections better.

Thanks fellows! The alloy is co/ww and I was somewhat concerned because it looked like the sprue was broken off instead of being cut unlike the 50-50 mix of co/ww-lead that was a smooth cut. I will give them a couple of weeks to harden and load them with 13 grains of Unique for a fun day at the range.
Oh btw, this mould is from 1976 and is a flat base with no bevel.

If its a flat base mould Id be concerned with the rounded edge on the base. a little tin added may help fill out and the sprue both. But if they shoot good then their fine
