I’ve reached 1,200 fps with a 158 grain boolit using HS-6 and AA#9 in my 3” .357, but I can’t shoot six rounds fast… at least, I don’t want to. I get book velocity with the 180 grain Saeco #353 using HS-6, bullet Enforcer falls short of book data with this boolit by about 200 fps. 180 grainers going 1,185 fps from a 25 oz revolver is quite punishing.

I’m looking for an SD load I can shoot six times fast, and finish a box of 50 rounds. For that, I’m looking at Accurate #5. There’s not much data for that powder with lead boolits, but the Western Handloading Manual #1 was helpful. I decided to put 7.6 grains under the Lyman 358439 HP and MP 358439 FP, crimped in the cannelure (not over the front driving band). I measured 964 fps and 951 fps, respectively (average of six shots). It was very comfortable in my 3” .357. The insides of the cases were a tad sooty, but not dirty. I’m going to tinker more with AA #5 in .357.

According to what I’ve read, AA#5 should have relatively low flash.
